I think most of us who were two & became one have had the same problem.  Whilst two can't live as cheaply as one they can normally live cheaper than two singles.

Good afternoon      All good.  Met a potential handyman on Friday afternoon but I did not take to him although we agreed £25 an hour for odd jobs and a price for the other stuff like the fencing and pathways that need restoring. The price has not materialised (he said it would be here this morning) so I am thinking he is a no.  I had a hunch that the jobs were not really what he wanted to do.

Found an advert for another company in the parish magazine and rang them and the chap said he could do everything and he will call Monday to sort out a time to come and view.     I would love to get much of the outside work done over the next couple of weeks.  The course means I have the money and, like with the inside of the house, I feel if the big jobs can be done the smaller ones will not seem so overwhelming.

Potentially have two friends coming to stay for a couple of nights mid December so need to get the two spare rooms sorted by then but it is now a case of furniture arranging, curtains and a spare bed.  Have been looking on marketplace for a bed frame for a while but think I might just get a new one.

Nice weekend despite the fireworks that so many neighbours are letting off.  i hate them, it distresses so many animals although all 3 horses were superstars yesterday.   War zone sounds for over an hour as someone was letting them off on an intermittent basis, no warnings and two horse owning neighbours were really distressed.

Dinner was at a friends house: an Indian take away for her birthday. Was a little worried about leaving but we got there very late hoping the worst were over.     My new office shredder came with a lovely posh gift of a body scrub and body moisturiser from a nice brand so that was re-gifted as a present and we came home with all the leftovers so free lunch today.

Morning ride and gossip with neighbour then made £30 for the free money pot as sold a wheelchair ramp that belonged to the ex's father.   It was just abandoned behind the barn and found in a clear up.  Really happy with the £30 as listed on marketplace yesterday and gone today.  Returned 3 wooden jump poles to a neighbour who had loaned them to me, and had to be creative about fixing them into a wheelbarrow to drop off as of the course the bigger car is no longer in action.   Then tidied my one wooden jump pole to a dry spot for the winter.  Tiny steps to clearing up outside

Cleared and tidied feed room, throwing away rubbish then started on the tack/rug/storage shed as I moved the summer horse stuff there (tubs of shampoo etc).    Removed a couple of bits of rubbish and felt overwhelmed so stopped.  I think I might need the timer for there and just do 5 mins of sorting and then 10 mins clearing and deciding what to do with the bits I have sorted!

Now settling down at my desk to write Wednesdays lecture and slides for the course.

I find putting everything into a to be sorted area helps. As long as you have the space lol

Great work getting the £30 and doing more than you probably realise sorting and tidying!
How random to get posh smellies with a shredder 😁 Definitely a win though!

It sounds a very productive weekend. I completely get the overwhelmed feeling, so I hope backing off from it will let your subconscious brain work on it and when you next go over there, you will see it with fresh eyes and find a way forward (like coming back to a jigsaw you were stuck on and seeing the right piece straight away).

I'm with you on the fireworks too. While I love seeing an organised display, people setting them off randomly causes such distress to animals and, I would imagine, to anyone who's been in a war zone. I'd like to see a limit on who can set them off, and when, rather than a total ban. At least if you know they will be between 7 and 8 on November 5th, you can do your best to keep the animals calm. Not ideal, but it allows community displays.

We have organised displays in our village and the neighbouring one, plus out of earshot (even for animals) displays in nearby towns. The two villages always go Friday night (here) and Saturday night (there) and both are good revenue streams for the social clubs and well attended by local families to the extent that garden displays are typically two per village. There has been an explosion of vitriol from one resident in the neighbouring village after their Saturday night display. He's relatively new there. The events are always well publicised and last no longer than 15 minutes with many bangs. I'm sure he will be apoplectic next Friday when ours takes place.

Those with sensitive pets stay with them (me - our stealth cat used to get behind the aga and stay there for several hours [used to because we have blocked it so now she hides under the beds] and the dog barks incessantly and almost hysterically) - I take the view that we know in advance, I can plan, could give them a mild sedative, and it is over quite quickly, and provides much enjoyment for others, so I say nothing. I think it is different for horses. Some owners are upset, some tolerate in silence. Glad your herd kept calm

The area is so cluttered I'm not even sure this is possible!   

Also I'm not really sure what to do with the "stuff" as I'm sure it might be useful at some point, and yes, I know I sound like a horder there!
