The moon has been beautiful these last couple of nights. Jane Eyre is on my "re-read" list. My book club had a long list of classics, but sadly it folded as book clubs often do. (Writing that made me think I might look to start another at some future point when I have some time free)Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!3 -
I think the title is probably the best thing about Wide Sargasso Sea. I couldn’t get through it.
I’m reading a modern novel called Evenings and Weekends. It’s ok. Maybe I’ll set some time aside this weekend to lay in bed and read it. Free activity I guess.
Have you read Mrs Dalloway? I have not read much of it, only extracts but I have seen the film The Hours which is a great companion piece.Credit card 1800

@Fortune_Smiles, thanks for popping in! I think I'm going to save Wide Sargasso Sea for a while and savour the magic of the original, but I may well wander into it one day.
@Watty, I think the trouble with really unputdownable books is that you have to be able to take chunk of life and set it aside and just read. How often does that happen? I did just that for one of the Harry Potter books: the family had to eat from the freezer till I'd read it all. It's a good job that I read fast when I'm engrossed. I don't think you will have much time for a book club in the near future, but this would be a great opportunity to start listing the books you will discuss when the time comes. What else is going in apart from Jane Eyre?
@itsthelittlethings, it's funny how the title affects the rest of the book so much, isn't it? It tempts us to read, or puts us off entirely - same goes the the cover illustration if there is one. I was haunted by 'Time without Clocks' until I read it - there again, the title is the best part.
I haven't read Mrs Dalloway, so I looked it up. I like the era so I will look out for it thanks!

Another day with the grandchildren: DH took them to playgroup in the morning and I joined them afterwards at the swings. I'd made them each a little picnic box of cheese and breadsticks but they neither of them wanted them! Good job I had also brought yogurt pouches, so they had some lunch on the way home.
We had a quiet afternoon: rather a lot of TV but they have been away all weekend and their sleep patterns were disrupted. Later in the day we went down to the garden centre to admire the Hallowe'en and Christmas decs, and I succumbed to £12 worth of plants. That garden centre isn't the cheapest but they are nice sturdy plants, and a Michaelmas Daisy was on my 'wanted' list. (I got two, and an eryngium). Then both girls fell asleep in the buggy on the short walk back. Thankfully I managed to get them awake not long after, because I don't want their parents to have difficulty tonight.
DH and I had the chickpea tikka for dinner again tonight and there's a lot left for other days.
I've spent the evening on my course. It went quite well and I feel a bit more in the swing of things again.

So true - and the same can be said of anywhere that sells plants. Or any opportunity to try to start a cutting or plant a seed.amber03 said:It is hard to walk away from a garden centre without at least one plant.

The main focal point of Wednesday was trimming back a plum tree before it gets too big to tackle. It was nice to be working outside, but it's not as warm as it was. Later we went for our coffee date and discussed arrangements for the forthcoming wedding. I hate the getting ready part, mostly because I'm never comfortable in formal clothes. I'm on the great shoe hunt now - something suitable for both the dress and my feet.
There was some irregular spending as I've ordered plate racks in the hope of keeping the sideboard in order, and in order to get free shipping, topped up the order with some tins of low-fat coconut milk. It's sometimes hard to get it round here.
Dinner was sausages and baked potato, followed by rice pudding. It's a huge rice pud, as I had a litre of lacto-free milk to use up. There is plenty for tomorrow as well.
I had three hours of work this evening and called in to L1dl on the way home to use my special offers while they still work. They have lots of wooden toys in at present so I got a nice bright chunky jigsaw for my Sunday morning group. They also have Christmassy food (I know - early October, just what we need... not) but there were some flavoured chais so I treated myself to two different flavours. I'm still using up one from last year but they don't have that flavour this time around.

I got very little done this morning: too cold. In fact, DH has a cough so I moved to the spare room and had a very good night's sleep, so I feel I didn't have much excuse for inactivity, but I struggle when it's cold. In the end I put the heating on for half an hour.
Lunch was baked potato with beans and cheese, which helped warm me up and eventually I set off to do the church cleaning and a spot of sorting out for the Sunday morning children's activity. In the end, between creeping round so I didn't disturb an activity, and moving bits around for the children, then popping in to see the person in charge of children's work and resolving a few things there, I had a productive afternoon but can't claim much cleaning got done.
On the way home I went to the shops and bought quite a selection of oddments: more wooden spoons to make puppets and a pair of stripey socks (inspiration - how to dress the 'Joseph' puppet!), masking tape, some artificial flowers to give a pop of autumn colour indoors, a storage bag for summer dresses and a couple of Olio/Iceland bargains (eggs and little oranges).
I wasn't going to do puppets this week, as I want the children to have a variety of forms of story telling, but honestly, when I realised it was the story of Joseph, I couldn't not, could I? I mean, how often do I get to do a technicolour dream coat? I think it will catch their attention.
Dinner was chickpea tikka again - I've asked DH to limit the amount he gives me! I think the problem is our large dinner plates. I might look out for something smaller! I did find room for some more rice pudding though.
The search for something for the wedding goes on. I've just ordered underwear - not such an indulgence as I seem to have changed shape while staying much the same size, or else what I have is just getting old. I spotted shoes I like on V1nted, but am waiting for a reply from the vendor before I order. I think the heels may be too high for me, but they are pretty shoes. I'm also discovering how tempting V1nted is!
