This morning it's lingering symptoms for me and slightly feverish with a cough for DH, who is reading a book instead of going on his second trip into town on small errands. Normally he can easily make three such trips a day, so I appreciate he is trying to rest. (I put the multiple trips down to ADHD nowadays. He genuinely feels better if on the move).

I've tidied the food cupboard. Nine jars of jam? I know DH can get through about one a week, but if the zombie apocalypse happens, he might get rather tired of jam without anything to put it on.

I have enough plain biscuits and cappuccinos but I do buy the cappuccinos when on offer and have a good turnover of them so they will be replenished. Will pause on the biscuits, only buy cous cous if on offer for now, no more bread sauce (Sains thinks I will be tempted by money off on it, but we have it once or twice a year), there are two Christmas puddings to use up that were bought 13 months ago so I'm not keeping them ad infinitum... also various jars and tins that will keep well.

The weather is lovely so the first of two loads of laundry is on the line. Everywhere needs dusting but I also need to apply myself to getting the kids' session  prepared for the morning. DH is making dinner - plaice and cous cous, so no chip shop trip today. Uses stocks and saves spreading infection. He is determined to take his phone to the repair shop later (grey screen) so I've suggested a mask.

Haha - 9 jars of jam did make me laugh - I'm like that with herbal teas - enough in our stores to go for at least 6 months if not longer!

I'm currently looking at one of our shelves of the stores full of dried fruit and nuts - wondering what needs restocking and what needs using!  It's amazing what a little tidy reveals.

Glad to hear you are on the mend!

@rtandon27, nine jars of jam, eight boxes of cappuccino, five packets of tea, five herbal teas, two boxes of coffee bags, six packs of Ryv1ta, three boxes of breadsticks... :disappointed:

Those are the ones in the back-up stores, I've not counted what's in the kitchen cupboards!

At least I know what I don't need to top up on. :D

I've just glanced in the tins cupboard downstairs and it needs a good sort out too but first I have to prep the stuff for tomorrow as that won't wait.

DH's phone has righted itself, though, so that's one trip into town and one expense postponed.

27 tins of tomatoes, 18 of kidney beans, at least 6 jars of instant coffee - that goes up to 8 if I find it at £5.50 or below, currently £7.75 in Tescos!!  All carefully stock rotated.  During lockdown & shortages those went down to 12, 8 & 2.  Anyone old enough to remember sugar rationing (late 70s) that could be why I always have 3 bags.  I decided a long time ago that no international sillinesses were going to leave me withoout being able to cook my favourite meals & drink the drinks friends liked.

I hadn't registered there had been a sugar shortage, @badmemory, but perhaps I wasn't old enough to remember. I do have some bags in store though, as I buy it when L1dl does a 15% discount (I admit I just fall for this and haven't researched whether there's a better way to get it, but I need it for baking and making marmalade). DH has some on his cereal.

Sugar is only 89p at present in HomeBargains against 1.09 in Aldi.  I wish they had had these online shopping things 50+ years ago.  My fingers do quite a bit of wandering whilst I write my lists.  I am one of those boring people that had to have a second phone line when everything was still dial up.

I must have a look thanks! I'll go past there in the week.

ETA: oops, it's B&M round here. Sadly no HB. :(

Todays question.  If you live somewhere where aldi Lidl, HB & B&M are within 100 yards of each other does this mean that they know most people will buy from there rather than elsewhere because they are basically skint or is that how they afford their 74 reg tanks.

Lol, I'd guess maybe something of each but you don't stay rich by shopping at Waitflower and the Sparks shop. :)

We have a Waitflower across the street from a MrL and have found that basics cost the same on average at both, with Waitflower being better quality, especially in the meat department.  Where MrL wins out is with their round the world themes of the week & super6 - variety and short-lived bargains.  For day to day we tend to shop at Waitflower, but for special items we hop across the street to MrL.  (The OH tells me I'm a tightwad and won't part with a single penny more than I need to!)

The MrAl is on the other side of town so we rarely go as it would cost more in gas and parking than the savings - also no HB or B&M in our town.

Sparks on the other hand is just painful - the only time we ever have shopped there was while we were on a self-catering weekend holiday!  Eyewatering extortion is what comes to mind!
