Thank you @milann and @Onebrokelady - I should buy shares in Epsom salts but yes, I really think they do help. I had to sleep with a hot water bottle behind my back to keep the muscles relaxed last night, but I didn't need pain killers. This evening's shift was much less hoovering so I feel less achy! In  fact, I finished a bit ahead of time: a number of meeting rooms had hardly been touched so in those, I just needed to empty bins, tidy chairs and disinfect surfaces where they looked as though they'd been used.

We have planned home-made fish and chips again tomorrow, so I went to L!dl on the way home and treated us to discounted pastries as well as the fish and some cottage cheese to keep up my protein. I've remembered from the days when I used to run, that eating protein within about twenty minutes of activity enables the body to target it to heal micro injuries. I'm hoping the same applies to hoover workouts: the cottage cheese goes to turn those aches into (calorie-burning) muscle! The doughnut afterwards was pure indulgence. :)

So my meals have been an assortment today: granola and cappuccino for breakfast (are my roots showing? :D ), granola, blueberries, yogurt, honey, another cappuccino and (ahem) a chocolate caramel bar for lunch, as I couldn't be bothered cooking and needed a rest, and crispbreads with cottage cheese and stilton for supper, followed by hot chocolate. There was also a biscuit mid-shift to 'put me on'. DH had his usual tuna sandwich, cake or pastry, apple and orange for lunch and sausage casserole for dinner - now I need to give some thought to next week's meals as I have a class on Monday, shifts every night but Tuesday (when I have pizza with my friends) and if I'm not careful, DH and I won't see each other much.

A lovely day today, based at home and 10 degrees with some sunshine. We sent a video message to DH's uncle, who is about to be ninety, had fish and chips for lunch (not from the chippie) and DH got some bits of shopping. He's also booked us a couple of days at a B&B for after the wedding celebration we're going to in April, so we can make a mini holiday of it, much as we did last year.

I mended some trainers where the fabric was starting to break down, and I'm pleased with the result.

Most of the afternoon was spent with our neighbour, taking down some branches and cutting them up. It was nice working out of doors again. We've filled both our green wheelie bins with the twigs, and turned the thicker bits into logs, finishing just after the sun set, and with a robin singing to us.

I think last week is catching up with us as I fell asleep on the sofa and DH was struggling to keep awake!

I helped with the little ones at church this morning: it's a breeze if I'm not in charge! H invited us over for lunch and a catch up as A was at the footie, and we stayed all afternoon. We also gave H the rest of her birthday present, which arrived while DH had Covid so was necessarily delayed. The little girls have both grown, and baby F fell asleep on me so I got an extra-long hold of her. A arrived back half way through the afternoon so we saw him too.

Dinner was the Moroccan-style vegan stew and there's enough for tomorrow lunchtime too. This evening we watched the Pottery Throwdown together. I'm amazed at the stuff they manage to make!

    Nothing spent.

A quick question - it used to be possible to search for people by user name on the forum, but I can't find it any more. Any ideas? I'm wanting to find @Memory_Girl 's first thread, but it would be useful to know in general terms too.

  • If you click onto the use name in your post (the @Memory_Girl bit) you can click into her user profile and then scroll down to the bottom, below activity it has her discussions (threads that she started) - there are 22 of them and the original one I read was called something like 49p and 2 nappies if that helps.

Thanks @redofromstart, I found it! I thought there used to be a massive list somewhere but perhaps that went in the last refurbishment. I hadn't realise the word 'Activities' was a link, either. Then if you scroll right down to the bottom, there's another link on the right ('more threads' for even more threads and the elusive one that I knew existed but had never been able to find, even in the days of the old above mentioned massive list: Clydesdale - frozen my benefits — MoneySavingExpert Forum (putting that there for my reference because it would drop a very long way down my bookmarks, and in case anyone wants to read).

Memory Girl was legend, and there are so many other names on her threads of people who have vanished now. I wonder where they all are? Nostalgia...

I haven't achieved much so far today, partly because I've spent a lot of time reading through the threads mentioned above. I gave DH a couple of cushion covers to donate, so those aren't hanging about any more but there's a lot of surplus stuff still here.

We had our main meal at lunchtime (leftovers from yesterday) and there's still a bit left for later. The heating's not been on as it's so mild, and DH did the @sda run for cheap tins of chickpeas, tomatoes, apples and peaches. I've spent ages darning a pair of his thick socks, so they live to fight another day.

So quite a few MS things have happened.

I also checked my email, possibly out of slight guilt for being relieved at not going to the Maths class today. I can see my timesheet has been passed, which reminds me I need to put last week's shifts down.

I have a strong feeling that I'm putting things off, but what?

  • MG herself set up a mortgagefreeinthree blog and forum for a few years (where i and others posted debt free diaries and recipes until it stopped and I came back here), and I think is still in some form active via FB etc. there are a few original posters around although may have changed.

Thanks for that, @redofromstart. I've not managed to trace her nowadays but it was quite a rollercoaster read going through her early threads! I feel as though some are missing because people refer to a 'Make do and mend' thread she had - possibly about 2008 - but I can't find that at all.

Apart from sock mending, I've been to work and that's about it. I was given a different area which only takes two hours, so I got home a bit early. I didn't manage to avoid the supermarket: I bought milk and tinned peaches but couldn't find frozen spinach anywhere. I'm really tired for some reason: the very grey weather hasn't been conducive to doing things, so perhaps that's it.
