Sorry that didn't work especially as I came back to tell you ê is alt136 and è is alt138. It is odd that they don't work as I first worked them out back in 1998 & they still work on the one I bought last year.

I remember looking them up and trying them out at some point and I think they worked on a previous laptop. I've tried variations of holding down keys and using them separately.
I've just looked up accents specifically for 365 which came up with an entirely different set of instructions:- Open the "Insert" tab, then navigate to Symbol > More Symbols, and select the accented letter you want to insert.
- Press Ctrl+ (accent mark) or Ctrl+Shift+ (accent mark) quickly followed by a letter to insert an accented character into a Word document.
- Use the shortcut key Ctrl + Shift + the accent to insert an accented character.
- Use the Symbol dialog to insert the accent symbol you would like to use.
- Press Ctrl+', e to get é (where ' is the apostrophe key).

In at the deep end - nearly - with the new cleaning job. To be fair, I was given a thorough explanation of what to do where, what chemicals to use and how, uniform shirt, colour coded gloves, strict instructions not to try to reach anywhere difficult. All very professional - then an hour or so to get on with the job. I didn't get through all the allocated rooms, but I got beyond the basics and they won't have expected the total to be done, given that such a lot of the time was induction.
The hoover is seriously heavy! I'm going to have huge arm muscles and a nineteen-fifties waist after a week or so of this! The team is pleasant, which always helps, not that I got any time with them until we'd finished. And the building... is big. Fire induction consisted of having the gather point shown to me: it's so nice that I won't be expected to do an evacuation or test fire points. I didn't even have to learn where extinguishers are, though I suppose I'd better locate a few.
I'd already got some shopping this afternoon, including the free loaf from L1dl for spending £50 there this month, but I decided to shop on the way home too, so between that and the vacuuming, I had Epsom salts in the bath this evening.
Dinner was sausage casserole, and three remaining portions will go in the freezer (or fridge if the freezer is full). I bought oven chips and breadcrumbed fish to have tomorrow instead of chip shop F&C: better for us and better for our bank account - also better for the planet in that these aren't fried in beef fat.
I also had an email about next Monday's class - I really need to make myself get stuck into that Maths! Better news is that I've emailed to query the 'unusual' payslip.
I've committed to three nights next week, which means DH and I won't get much time together at all, but I'm keen to be earning again. I'm at liberty to vary that, but I want to get off to a good start.

Housekeeping £19.02

Today has been theoretically about learning how to do frequency tables. I let myself into it gently by way of averages, which I think I can do.. most of the time. This evening I finally managed to walk myself through finding the mean of some figures using a table. Sadly, I may never need this skill again, seeing as this is the first time I've needed it in my life, but I'll go through it again tomorrow and I've written out instructions in a very accessible way so if I get stuck, I can apologise gracefully and refer to them!
I have to remind myself I am there for the things I'm good at, not my maths skills.
DH has been unwell all day with a bad cold, and isn't likely to go to church tomorrow because that's just not sensible. However, we went for a drive/walk this afternoon (Cotcliffe Wood to Leake). It's a country road with lovely views, though we stopped short of the main road. You can tell the weather is turning towards spring, even if it's not due for a while. The birds are singing and there are signs of growth in the buds on the trees. Some plump sheep stopped eating to look at us: it won't be all that long till the lambs start to appear.
Dinner today was fish and chips, but we had shop-bought not chippie for once. It was quite nice, and half the usual price as well as much less fatty. I kind of undid some of the good work with home made banana bread and home made butter on it and a couple of chocolates left over after Christmas.
I also gave DH a haircut which turned out not to be very MS as I've broken the clippers. A new kit has been ordered (£26.99) and there was a 99p use of Pr!me for a week which was a quarter of the price of postage, so now I need to remember to cancel it. DH has bought a few groceries and some chocolate, but I think that's all he bought.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Today has been full of not-as-planned things. A couple of the children's workers had an emergency hospital stay so some of the rest of us stepped into the gap. Only half the usual number of children were there, so it was rather quiet. I'd also been havering between a couple of roles in the half term holiday club but staffing is down so I'm definitely needed in one.
I also stopped to talk to an old friend and she's just had bad news. At the moment there seem to be several people with serious sickness, there's not much I can do to help any of them.
DH didn't come to church as he is still feeling unwell, so I called at the pharmacy and bought Covid tests on my way home. Yes, he's positive! Yet this afternoon he feels he's turned the corner: he certainly sounds brighter. I've contacted both my jobs and one has got back to say please don't go in tomorrow as there's someone vulnerable and I might be infectious. I completely get that and co-incidentally it means I don't have to do the Maths (unless it's needed next week). I hope the other job picks up my email in good time tomorrow so I know what to do there, but I'll test myself in the morning anyway. I don't have symptoms but I've been with DH since he first thought he had a cold on Wednesday, so it's surprising if I've not been infected. Mind you, DH and I have both had Covid a couple of times but each stayed clear of infection when the other had it.
Dinner was sausage casserole from the other day.
We've not done much with the rest of the day apart from avoid each other! DH went for a walk, I played on the computer and did a bit of tidying in DS2's old room so I can use it tonight. It's more comfy than the sofa, where I was yesterday!

Housekeeping £3.45

It's been rather a long day, due to steady, heavy rain for hours and hours, and DH and I trying to keep out of viral range of each other. He's feeling much better and has been painting the landing, while I took a test which showed negative. I didn't go to this morning's class, as I mentioned yesterday, but was cleared to go in tonight. This was my induction paperwork so only a couple of hours, but it was nice getting out and having human contact. The manager is very nice, very much 'what you see is what you get' and knows all her staff and they seem to trust her. She also told me something of her own story, which is quite amazing.
I wasn't going to walk back via the shops, due to the rain, but it was stopping as we finished so I somehow spent quite a lot, including reduced pastries and some things for DH (including more test kits!). I admit to an impulse buy of some under-shelf shelving, the sort that hangs from the upper shelf. I've bought similar before and it's very useful.
We had a WhatsApp from D (DS2), showing him waving medication: it turns out he has the same condition that my sister and I have, and my Dad had. D says it explains why he's been feeling grim, so I was able to reassure him the medication should make a big difference. Interesting that it turns out to be familial, though whether it makes a difference I don't know.
We had our main meal at lunch time (tuna pasta) and I made a late tea of scrambled eggs on toast with fried tomato and mushrooms - gorgeous. I've hardly had toast in the last year but I thought it would be perfect tonight.
