2024 Fashion On The Ration Challenge

Hi all, well I don't know what the weather was like near you today but here it was monsoon, lots of roads with patches of flooding and big puddles everywhere. I went to the footy and while from head to ankles was warm and dry my feet were soaking so 1 thing I definitely need are some good, comfortable waterproof footwear. I will be looking in the next couple of weeks
Take care everyone

Yesterday wasn't too bad but today is dreadful and my only raincoat is in the car at the MOT garage! I have two errands I have to run, I'm going to be soaked, as is Junior Flamingo, who will be luvid about having to go out in it!Married 40y.o. mum of an autistic 11y.o. Carer/SAHM.

Well my new year has begun with my sewing machine not working
It seems to be the foot pedal, annoying as when I had it serviced about four years ago I had to buy a new pedal, I thought it would have lasted longer.
I am going to source a new one online, and give it a good clean and service myself, there are quite a lot of YouTube videos about doing it.Luckily I still have my mum's 100-year old hand-powered Frister & Rossman, so I was able to complete the project I was halfway through (a Barbie quilt, since you ask) Took me a few moments to remember how to use it, and then I was away, it may not have all the fancy stitches and useful gadgets of my Janome but it sews like a dream.
Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.12 -
@PollyWollyDoodle - my 1902 Singer sends its regards to your mum's Frister & Rossman!
I've just cleared it off AT LAST (this is something that I prioritised in mid-September as "THIS WEEK" level of urgency because I was feeling so depressed about not making anything).
I was going to make pockets for my grey-red tartan dress that I bought in early December but in fact the seams have started coming apart... I suspect the fact that I have altered the neckline, removed the sleeves and shortened it by 4 inches or more, mean that they won't refund it... but I shall let them know for their quality control. It's not the stitching that's given- it's obviously just been sewn too close to the cut edge and has unravelled, bang in the middle of the waist-seam on the front, really obvious place. I shall dismantle the thing over the summer and re-make it properly, as I like the fabric...
It means I've whizzed forward with pinafore plans for the free red linen, so I shall cut that out todayFingers crossed...

What was the deal with household linens like towels/face cloths/sheets? Were they couponed?Married 40y.o. mum of an autistic 11y.o. Carer/SAHM.

@flamingo747, I've been looking and I can't find anything. I think when I replaced a duvet cover it was counted as bomb damage, but alternatively there is a coupon cost for fabric, and I think we gave the same coupon cost regardless of the width of the fabric (in which case you may wish to turn your old towels into face cloths or makeup remover pads).
My good resolutions about not buying unnecessarily didn't last long, though both items were from charity shops and thus second hand and coupon free, and both were to some extent on the wish list. I finally found a light pink polo neck jumper to cheer up some grey or navy tops. Everything this season seems to be grey or beige and I'm not inspired! And I was looking for a Christmas tee shirt when I came across an oversized chunky Christmas jumper that I loved. £10 spent and no coupons.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. This is Fashion-on-the-Ration Challenge. We’ll ignore anything else.

Good to be in again this year. I bought a couple of items in the sales which I think took me to 68.5 coupons so just over the 66 for last year. They were things I had been watching for a couple of months and only bought when they were 50% off and then I had another 10% voucher. So starting this year with 66 new coupons. I usually buy from charity shops but like some of the others on here, need to stop buying just because it is a bargain! I also want to do more dressmaking with some of my fabric stash.Stash busting challenge 2025: 0/100 £0/£100 Fashion on the ration 2025: 0/6611

It's only a small thing but I have already managed to sew more for myself this year than I managed in all of last year! A new sleep-mask, cotton fabric, cream velvet-elastic, and quilting-wadding inside... the fabric and wadding were remnants, and haberdashery is coupon-free plus I already had the elastic, so no reverse-coupons spent, but I think I shall start a list of what I make regardless

Hello all!
I'm not quite sure what happened to 2023, I was horrified to see my bookmarked threads were all 2022 ones! I know I have a tendency to dissappear int he summer months but a whole year MIA I can't believe it!
Anyway here we go again, I have an overstuffed wardrobe that I need to figure out how to fit everything in tomorrow - wish me luck!
I am going to challenge myself two ways - when spending points it has to be quality or/and second hand.... but also I have to declutter 66 items of clothing / shoes, whether thats sell, donate, or bin doesn't matter as long as they leave the house.
We're off to a flying start on both sides of the camp...
6 coupons flying out - I ordered some Lucy and Yak jeans today - but in my defence they were in the sale and when added with my yak points they only cost me £15, my usual go to are £14 from primark so a much better investment in terms on longevity and my conscience.
But also - 3 items sold on vinted!
Current coupon count - 60/66 left to spend - 3/66 earnt
When I remember how to edit a signature I will do >.<I hope you know your capable, & brave, & significant.
even when it feels like your not....10
