  • Hello I'd like to join in the challenge please. I'm hoping to get to £100. Ive already got a tin & some £2 coins in my purse to start.I'm going to try & pay for more things in cash so that I can hopefully get the coins.
  • Good morning lemonpopcorn2.  Welcome to the 2024 challenge - you are #:) .  Sounds like you have made an excellent start already.  It will be lovely if you can keep us up to date with how you are doing throughout the year!

I'm a big fan of paying with cash.  I know exactly how much money I have to last me till the end of the week.  Stops me getting into trouble with my overdraft  :D.

  • Well I've got a sparkling new pot as the ones I had already I could easily get into. So I've got one of the ones that you need a tin opener to get into. Hopefully that will stop me raiding it.
I've added my first three coins to' it making a total of £6. Now just need to get into the habit of paying -
in cash rather than use my card like I have done for the past few years.
  • Well done lemonpopcorn2.  I also use those tins but have a pottery one as well!

Good luck with finding all those £2 coins.  They soon add up to a nice total  :)

  • Well, it's been a good week for coin collecting.  Last Sunday, my friend surprised me with a £20 bag of £2 coins.  Also had a nice little win whilst I was there (£45) so that's been safely put in another savings jar ready for December!  Hubby took me out for fish and chips on Thursday evening as we were both late finishing work.  A lovely £2 coin arrived in the change - so that's been swapped for 2 x £1 coins and popped safely away with my other coins.  On Friday, I had to do petty cash top up at work and there was one in there as well!  That has also been swapped out and potted.  Bit like buses, sometimes none, then quite a few!

Still no success at MrT's self service but I will persevere.  I'm sure that will change as the warmer summer months arrive (which seems to be the best time to use cash at self service checkouts).

So, all in all, I've had a good start to the year.  £48 is already stashed away in my lovely jar.  Who knows, maybe tonight I will secure a few more - only time will tell.

As a flying start to the year, I am a disappointment. Not wrangled a single coin. Poor empty pig. Still, now son has uni application in, and days are lengthening, I shall try harder.
  • I have just counted up my January total - £48! Mainly plain but one Shakespeare coin with tthe crown.  Unlike DigForVictory my pretties all go in the same pot!

  • Well done Nellie75 - that's a fantastic start to the year.  Keep at that level and you will have over £500 by December!

I've not been doing too badly myself.  Seems word has got around the bingo hall that I collect and save, so people keep coming up and asking if I'd like to swap their £2 coins with them  :).  That means I now have to take a lot of extra cash with me as i couldn't bear to have to say no.

Alas, absolutely nothing from the self service checkouts.  May try the ordinary checkout later on when i go for the essentials and see if I can spot any in the till, then drop into conversation that I save £2 coins  :D.
