Watched a movie last night and no ads. My app had definitely updated as I was offered an upgrade to ad free when opening, and it has a tab to sign up on the sidebar.1

It was Honest Thief, with Liam Neeson, and was pretty good. How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.98% of current retirement "pot" (as at end April 2025)0 -
It's probably the thin end of the wedge...

Note that the Tech Press are reporting that Amazon have removed Atmos and Dolby Vision from the With Ads tier now too so you get lower grade sound and video (if you have kit that supports the two formats)0

Watched (half) of the new Grand Tour last night.
They are sponsored by Mini, so just one ad at the start and none during.
I think I can live with that. 😉How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.98% of current retirement "pot" (as at end April 2025)0 -
IMO Amazon are probably treading carefully by testing the waters to see reactions as ADs are new at the moment. Later on with time and/or perhaps with more popular hits probably expect to see more frequent ADs. Otherwise, why would Prime customers pay the additional fee?!?0

Maybe.
We usually cancel over the summer anyway, as we're not watching as much TV, so they might think we're "voting with our feet".
I do hope that "Prime Video with ads" will still remain an option, when we look to restart it in September. How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.98% of current retirement "pot" (as at end April 2025)0 -
Not Prime, but watching an old NOWTV eight episode series, the same adverts (two) are broadcast at every ad break. It drives me mad. Not so much the adverts but having to watch the same advert over and over. I now hate them with a passion and even if I was slightly tempted to buy the products I won't now.
The 3 advert with the stupid woman staring at her phone on numerous occasions all the time saying "Aaaah" is the worst one. It is everything I hate about mobile phones. The other one is the Cadburys Creme Egg which is at least slightly amusing but now worn off.0 -
I only use Prime when I've got a free 30 day trial, which they keep offering despite me always taking it and cancelling the same day, but still getting the 30 days. What irritates me the most is you find a film or show that might be half decent and you have to pay extra to watch it. Throw in ads as well and there's no way I would pay for a subscription.
One can only take so many life insurance ads that will pay something TOWARDS your funeral cost.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. I've watched 2 movies over the last couple of days, there were ads at the start and then some ads 15mins in and that was it. I watched it on a tv and could see when the ads were coming on the play line? (is it called that?)
