Bold leap into retirement

still wishful thinking. I have stopped asking for now as daughter's hunt for a job after graduation has not been successful yet 😢 I guess he will carry on until she has started a job and moved into accommodation there (wherever there is)

I am planning to start a regular exercise class once fully retired. One of the plans which I have for the summer months is (weather permitting) to explore lots of park areas on the other sides of London and slightly further out. I did a group walk on Saturday which crossed about 5 different parks (all public transport accessible). It gave me more ideas for future solo trips. I like strolling around with a book and stopping at a cafe while there. Having the Oyster 60+ travel pass is a big bonus.

I can recommend the Capital Ring, as it links together a lot of London parks and green spaces. Good tube access too.

One year to go for me - 31st March 2027!
Does anyone know what the notice period is for the Civil Service? Is it 1 month or 3, I've done 26 years and I only want to give them the minimum as I've a feeling I'll get some even more menial jobs to finish me off!

@Julezy101 It is a month for notice but they say 4 months notice to have pension in place (if Capita sort themselves out, if not longer).

Does it make any difference if you have a planned date for retirement? A mate retired last week and had to give three months notice but didn't tell anyone [other teams etc] until one month to go. The last couple of days were also accrued leave that would not be paid if not taken. But yeah I get it, everyone will want you to show them what you did/train them/finish things up but we keep getting trained that we are replaceable and the organisation will be just fine… lol!

Thanks, I'll just give them 1 month then. I won't be drawing my pension for another 2 years after that so hopefully Capita will be fixed by then….

If I give them 3 months notice when I only have to give 1 then I've a feeling I'll be given some horrid jobs which need doing which no one else wants to do. Only giving 1 month will limit this possibility considerably!

imo give them the minimum notice, as in reality your just a number and will be a distant memory in a few weeks.
A thankyou is payment enough .3
