Bold leap into retirement

Best thing to do is to work the numbers. If they add up (with appropriate contingency), then you should be good.

I have checked the numbers. They are ok. My nervousness is more about other aspects of retirement. I have been in my current job so long.

Thanks. Currently I'm feeling good with my decision. Ultimately despite Trump's constant madness I think the numbers add up so there is no reason why I shouldn't retire. If I find myself horribly boredat some point in the future I'm sure I could find an easier job, probably local, to fill some time.

Have a look on the web for activities in your local area. Most villages have at least a few meetings / clubs / groups and more in larger towns. There are also a lot of free courses etc online if you have particular interests. And no need to give up contact with everyone you work with - you can just be a bit more selective in who with and how often you interact.

Yes thanks. I am already doing this though I never find it easy to start with a new group/activity. I have one where I have been a Whatsapp member for a while but still haven't actually met up. I do expect to keep in touch with a couple of colleagues and will probably still be doing a few casual hours to stay in touch with things.

Not so much a bold leap as dipping my toe in the water. As of tomorrow I’ll be semi-retired, dropping from full time to 3 days a week. I’ve never worked part time before - been in full time work or education (sometimes both at the same time) since I was 18.
People keep asking what I’m going to do with my 4-day weekends. I have plans!
- Pamper day - skin, hair, nails done etc
- Chores day
- Fresh air and exercise day
- Art & history day
Can’t wait!

I have been working 3 days a week since last September. I find that I am no more motivated to do chores then when I was full time!

I've been three days a week since Jan 2025, and can confirm that chores don't get any more appealing once you're part-time 😆
I'm cutting my hours further from May, will have to see if two days a week finally means housework is appealing!

Chores are not appealing but they have to be done and reducing the proportion of my free time spent on them definitely is appealing 😁. One day in four as opposed to one day in 2 when working F/T.

Nah - I have plans to do all sorts of house and garden stuff - I don't think I will any more motivated than I am now. Currently on leave and taking time to make the decision (I keep saying that too - might just flip a coin).
