Bold leap into retirement

very likely nothing. You could say you are leaving immediately unless they think a month's notice would get them out of hole in which case you will gracefully agree.

@DadAlone I had two very toxic people in one of my posts, I got a A3 picture of a circus top for the wall and used to hum (very badly) 'Oh What a Circus' when ever things were starting to get tricky (most days), I was moving into a new role and had a start date but the manager said I could have a month for 'admin' to get me out of the office.

The deed was done this morning and I followed up with a pre-arranged meetup with a couple of old buddies from a previous workplace in the pub. Spirits are lifted and to top it all off alongside my resignation I was also very unexpectedly able to report to the toxic ones a huge win (Judgement delivered in a very large law case in Oz overnight, IANAL though). Today was a very good day, ONWARDS!

In the words of Colonel Hannibal Smith, "I love it when a plan comes together."
Good luck.

Soooo, one year anniversary of joining the 'unwilling to be employed', and wow what a year.
Retirement has given me everything I was hoping for from a mental health and pace of life perspective. Have to be honest I don't feel I maximised my available time during the first year; we spent too much time enjoying having time (lots of simple one day outings, etc), so whilst it isn't a negative, as such, that is something I am keen to adjust (I enjoy doing DIY so want to plan better at assigning time to undertake things). I may want to but, I love the spontaneity of just being able to go.
On that note, we take delivery of the motorhome today (coincidence, I think not 😁), and we have a trip planned for France (Ardeche region with a friend) as a starter, but the aim will be to travel around Europe during the spring and autumn months.
To all those still pondering... "Come on in the water's lovely".

@cloud_dog Loving the 'unwilling to be employed' I think that will be my mantra. Was discussing with a friend about part time potter jobs but we both both agreed that it would be too much commitment.
About 13 working weeks to go for me (if civil service pensions get their act together) just done my end of year - and didn't give a (insert suitable rude word), won't be another one.

god, i had to do my 'Performance Journey' this time last year, i really couldnt be arsed but my line manager (a good egg, if a little keen) wanted a 100% on his metric for his people completing it. I spent th hour explaining what AVCs are, he had no idea, and to think about a seperate SIPP if he's got any left after AVC contributions or even instead off as he has more access options etc. also politley unloaded some of my complaints but not too harshly, it wasnt a bad employer overall

@pterri My line manager is great, I put some basics into copilot - didn't realise I was so awesome :)

I finish at the end of April. Quite mixed feelings at the moment. I do want to stop but...

Huge congrats
How are you feeling now you’ve made the decision?
You also seem to have some solid plans for what to do with your time in retirement, which is key
