@London_1 "Seven o'clock arrived and Alexa wakes me up with the news." Back when I used a radio alarm to wake me up, I set it to 7.05, just so I didn't have to wake up with wars, deaths, natural disasters, etc. It made for a more cheerful start to the day.

Hi all, as predicted I was up late yesterday after a disturbed night and did nothing all day except listen to the radio, read a bit and slob around generally. I did make tea and uu some close to end of life veg with 1 portion into the freezer
. I gave the ironing pile a stern look but it didn't sort itself
. Generally I just felt out of kilter with the world. OH has done a shopping list for our mini break and considering we are only going Monday to Thursday it's enough to last about 2 weeks
. I can see us bringing a fair bit home but I had brain fog so just accepted it
It will be sorted when we actually go to the sm
. Despite being up late I trotted off to bed at the usual time and fell asleep fairly quickly and am now awake at a normalish time and feeling much better so fingers crossed I can get something done today
. I have a few things that have to be done today so I will do a small list and carry it round with me until it's done
I have read all the posts but retained very little but
@TC77 sorry for the no show, it's so annoying when people do that. I used to use freegle but stopped because I got so fed up of people not turning up, so frustrating when you are giving away things for free and people can't even be bothered to let you know if they have to change their plans. Hugs
@Florenceem sorry Mr F seems out of sorts, maybe you need a treat to look forward to, you both work so hard and at this time of year when winter is coming it can feel a bit bleak. Hope he feels better soon, hugs
@London_1, a pottering day is definitely what we all need sometimes
@Duchess2 and @suzeesu2000 I think ironing breeds and is one of those jobs that I just hate.
@Mrs SD ouch to the garage bill but how nice to find a forgotten account. I remember when I was a student I used to keep a bit of money in my student train pass in case I needed to do an emergency trip home and at the end of the year it was always lovely to rediscover it
@GrannyKate everything here crossed for you hugs
Right off for another cuppa and list writing
Hugs to everyone who would like one
Take care everyone

@GrannyKate 🤞for you today. You so deserve a good outcome. @Liverpool_Anne glad you are feeling better. I’m sure your break will aid your recovery even more.@MrsSD eeek to the garage bill, but I’m sure you will have it covered. Hoping to sort some more stuff to put on eBay today and have another attempt at the ironing pile of doom😃. Also on standby for a friend’s son who has gone to school feeling unwell. Might get a call to pick him up, so not straying far today. Hope everyone has a good day. Think I’ll treat myself to a quick coffee and put off the inevitable for a bit longer. Any excuse lol14

@GrannyKate What appalling solicitors!🤞for today.
@Liverpool_Anne glad you are feeling better. Hopefully you've turned a corner. Enjoy your break.
@MrsSD I wish we still had the old blue, hair-raising emoji so I could use it about your garage bill.
@Florenceem I hope Mr F is feeling better today but that you managed to get him to go to the doctor just in case
@Duchess2 and @suzeesu2000 and all fellow ironing-haters - firstly, my deepest sympathy and understanding.
Now I've actually managed to get my own ironing under control (again) and the ironing baskets is... drumroll please... EMPTY!! (Woo hoo! Way hey!!🥳 ) I think I'll go back to the scene of my youth. I used to iron the damp clothing etc as soon as it was washed. It has the same effect as a steam iron and helps it to dry faster. Plus I don't need a step-ladder to reach the top of the pile.🙃
Mind you, I also used to do all the washing in 1 day and play 'beat the machine' with the ironing. But I was young and foolish...
I'm putting off my update because it was (very) little and (not very) often! Here it is:Wednesday – Designated Admin Day
- Opened a one-step-up-from-Basic Current A/c with my current bank. I’ve worked out monthly amounts to budget for less frequent payments (car, insurance, holidays, Christmas etc). So I’m going to transfer the amounts there, where it’s easily accessible but not immediately available IYSWIM.
- Summer bedding put in storage and dry bedding put away.
- Decluttered some fridge & freezer odds and ends into a meal.
- NSD
Thursday – Enjoyable, but not much decluttering done
- 3 loads of washing – 1) towels/facecloths 2) bath/kitchen towels 3) kitchen/bath mats, dusters etc
- Folded all summer wear and put into vacuum bags ready for ‘hoovering’.
- One bag recycling
- Leftovers for tea
- Decluttered e-tickets because we went to a gig. (Niteworks, for anybody who’s heard of them…!)
- Accidental NSD. We stopped on the way back to get milk and bread from the 24/7 Asda. It was shut.
Physical decluttering:
- As above
Alligator Wrangling:
- Not even a tadpole…
NSDs
- 8/15
A budget is like a speed sign - a LIMIT not a TARGET!!
CHALLENGES
2025 Declutter:
1 CONTAINER (box/bag/folder etc) per day; 50/365
1 FROG (minimum) per week; 6/52
WEIGHT I'll start with 25 lbs (though I need to lose more!) and see how it goes...🤔 0/25
2025 NSDs: 15 per MONTH - FEB 4/15; JAN 21/15
2025 Fashion on the Ration: (carried over from 2024) 10+66 = 76
2025 Make Do, Mend & Minimise No target, just remember to report!

Hi,
I had a day in the tlc carriage yesterday. Most unlike me. I did however go to yoga and visit my Mum. Did nothing else whatsoever other than a bit of knitting, Mr V made tea. I am still processing the swift passing of my son's cat and the fire. Pets really do become a member of the family if they are lucky enough to have a good family.
The fire was actually worse than initially thought. Our neighbour has no sight at all and came down the stairs from his wfh office thinking the back door was on fire, another few minutes and it would have been well ablaze and he would have been trapped upstairs. He came out the front door to our house. Luckily we were home, everyone else on the street is out at work. Obviously he had no clue what was going on. The bin is a blob, welded to the ground, the drainpipe and sink waste pipe burned away, hose pipe reel melted to the wall and the new back door badly scorched.
I did a daft thing at yoga. The teacher was impressed with my hip movement, the only bit of me that is ok! she said I bet you can do the splits to which I did one!!!!!! Not attempted for about 10 years, but iv'e still got it! Should have stretched first, but no aches today. I could have ended up in hospital!
Granny kate, I hope next time you post it is to say that you have moved.
LiverpoolAnne, are you going to the Lakes on your trip?
Good call with the news Siebrie.
Mrs SD, I just used what I had for the Christmas chair but it would much better painted red. I may paint it again. I don't expect it to stay. The other one still needs sanding and at the moment isn't a Christmas chair. It does have more chance of staying longer than the first one, but I imagine it isn't a permanent resident. I am home alone today so I will get out and photograph the shed village. Misty today, glorious yesterday. We have "disruptive" snow forecast for next week. All was well at the dentist, hope it keeps that way!
I have bagged up a couple of jumpers for the charity shop. I keep buying these made in Italy one size jumpers and must remember that they are made for someone much taller than me. They are not a flattering length on me. I will look through my clothes and find a few more bits.
Today I am in the grotto. A few gifts to wrap, for my lovely cleaner and my pyromaniac bin monitor. I still have a secret Santa to buy. I give a lot of wrapped chocolate oranges, it's a tradition now. I think it's my photo on the thread. Anyhoo, chocolate oranges are 95p in Tesco this week with clubcard.
Take care folks Vx:15 -
1. Write a daily To Do list - only 3 tasks
2. Sort out sleep patterns - target bed by 2:00 a.m. & up by 10:00 a.m
3. Deal with mail & email on a daily basis
4. Don’t put it down, put it away + deal with mini tasks as soon as they are noticed e.g. refill olive oil pourer or salt cellar, stitch up a hole in a garment etc
5. Commence ‘Operation Frog Tickling’ using the acronym - I.R.I.S. (Identify, Research, Implement, Sign Off) - One per quarter
6. Continue to keep kitchen clean & tidy - before going to bed
Friday feels a lot colder 🥶 currently only 7°C & forecast to reach just 11°C. DH woke me at 10:00, as he was heading out to pick up the motorcycle, although I didn’t get up until 10:30. I have my first cuppa & once finished will head out to the bank + post some letters. DSis is about to have a bath. Straight into cheerleading 🙂
Liverpool_Anne, sorry to hear that you were so unwell on Tuesday 😔 & I do hope that you are now fully recovered 🤞Great work with decluttering emails & keeping on top of the daily decluttering 👏 Just wondering why the dentist is closing so early 🤨 are they perhaps a one man/woman band? A lovely chatty post especially the conversation about teachers 😊
Florenceem, just read your Wednesday post 🤩 No wonder you were exhausted😪 You do more in a day than I do in a fortnight. Sending lots of cwtches 🤗 & a plea to at least try & take it a bit easier 🙏 I really don’t want you to get ill.
Excellent decluttering QueenJess 👏Good luck with using up freezer contents & restricting your expenditure 🍀 It sounds like your DH needs to help you sort out the freezer contents 😉 Maybe standing out in the cold will help concentrate his mind on putting frozen goods away neatly rather than just chucking them in 🤞especially as you have a chest freezer 😥 That Victoria sponge looked so delicious 🤤 just a shame I missed out 😔 It looks good enough to be on Bake Off 🤩
basketcase, this “I suddenly feel a dreadful need to spend time in the TLC. It's very sudden and totally overhelming. I can't think what could be causing it...
” had me rolling about 🤣 Some excellent decluttering & tidying at the allotment 👏 I don’t imagine for one second that your DD realised the irony of of her two statements 😉
Liverpool_Anne, sorry to hear that your cold/flu is preventing you from getting a good night’s sleep 😔 Lovely chatty post, especially the description of your sister’s garden in Spain 😊 Keeping everything crossed that you recover completely over the weekend so that you can enjoy your mini break 🤞
I have caught up a little more & as the sun is out I will head off to the bank once this is posted. Hope everyone is having as good a day as possible & that all our poorlies are taking care 🙏 See you later 👋

Sympathy to my fellow early hours of the morning wakers. The only advantage is that we just might get to @QueenJess delicious cake first 🍰 I also failed to get back to sleep this morning. I am now fighting off the urge for a nap!I am waiting with fingers crossed and bated breath in hope for @GrannyKate today.@Liverpool_Anne - I haven’t done any work in recent years so already retired but had kept up my professional registration. Making the decision to not go for renewal means I definitely won’t be working again. It has felt quite good to be decisive about it.@Mrs_Salad_Dodger - thank you for explaining about using Notes although I still managed to mess that up 😂 It’s a lot of money for the motorcycle but definitely all worth it for the safety.@Florenceem - I hope Mr F picks up and starts to feel better. He does sound as though he also does a lot of running around being busy.11

@vulpix - it was such a near miss with that fire! I am not surprised that it has shaken you up. I am sorry about the cat too; as you say they are very much part of the family.I must go and get the washing in off the line. Whether it has done much drying remains to be seen. We have kept up with all the recycling this week and even got rid of the soft plastics yesterday. I have decluttered money on new spectacles. Somehow I never come away with the cheap option.Hooray for the empty ironing basket @basketcase 👏 I also iron damp as it is far less effort. It can then air off and there is no pile to deal with.13
