Ideally need a link to the one you have bought

Word of caution though if you have bought it off amazon the quality of electricals is very hit and miss

Do you have anything else with a hdmi port such as a laptop/pc/pvr etc?

Did the adaptor come with a power supply? Could be that the TV USB is only supplying enough oomph to light the LED but not enough to do anything useful.

As @cerebus implies, you need to confirm each component is producing expected output/functioning OK.

    It's this one -

4K@60Hz HDMI Audio Extractor with 1.2m HDMI Cable avedio links, Optical Toslink SPDIF + 3.5mm AUX Stereo Audio Out, HDMI Audio Converter Adapter Splitter Support ARC HDCP1.4 FullHD 1080P 3D https://amzn.eu/d/66i4GUF

I do have a surface pro with various connectors but what test would I do as I'm trying to output sound from TV to soundvar ?
  • IS this how you've connected up?

Has the soundbar been set to use optical input and volume set to around 50%?

Amazing your a legend ! I had hdmi into the input and not output! Working now.

The optical was going on and off looks OK for now so will monitor. Dunno if that would be the USB power ?

OK since I had to swap firestick it the power to the connecter only works for like a second - even when I unplug the USB back-lit. What are other power options ? Is it not powerful enough from TV USB?

I have a spare power socket so I think I need mains ac plug to a little 5v port on the converter

Pretty much any mobile phone charger will do , it should say on it what the current in amps it needs   , just use one that's bigger and you will be fine

Just noticed that the max current is 350ma it draws so pretty much any mobile phone charger will do!

Ahh ok let me have a look

Don't know if it's anything to do with the arc switch as it worked all last night if I switched off and on as soon as I turned tv on?

It's strange if I switch arc on and off a few times power stays on ??
