Good evening MFW'rs
We enjoyed watching the England rugger - how fantastic that Murrayfield was host to such a great rugger game. I know the result wasn't what some may have wanted, but it was a good game to watch. We did also watch the Wales match, which was perhaps a little less enjoyable….. And we've just watched the Women's football, which was OK. Iceland were certainly no pushover, but it wasn't the most engaging of matches either.
Tea was lentil bolognese and pasta. With l/o apple crumble and yoghurt.
The dehu was on for 2hrs, and the clothes were 'dry enough' by the end of it.

I don't follow rugby (even though I live in a rugby league area). But love how in all sports the women's game is now taken seriously and on at the big venues. I'm a cricket fan and looking forward to the world cup this year, again played in the big venues.
I was lucky. The washing dried yesterday afternoon and has been ironed

Quite right peb - and I don't know if it was a sell-out crowd, but there was a record-breaking crowd at Murrayfield. Folk want to watch Women's sports. The England footy aside (which was as dull as ditch water, and reminscent of the fellas playing), the games are usually fairer, show more technique and talent, and the mood is far more sporting. I would have no worries attending a WRFU or Women's footy game with kiddies. Whether I'd be brave enough to sport a feather boa trimmed cowboy hat, is quite another matter……. 🤠
Wot is this "iron" of which you speak….🤔
We've had lovely weather today - mucho sunshine and there is a breeze now, but I haven't done any washing today. I'm mostly caught up.
DH and LG have been out adventurising on the bikes. DH has "mended" my SC - the rubber 'foot' on one of the corners had come off, (it's too heavy to slide easily onto the shelf in the cupboard, and it wasn't very robust, so 'sheared' off). I always had to prop it up with some stacked coasters. Anyway, if I can sort out the cupboard (I've put some serving plates elsewhere, and hopefully I'll better be able to 'lift' it out, rather than trying to slide it. I've 2 units (1000mm??) where half the cupboard is inaccessible. I'm not even sure putting 'lazy Susan's' or hinges would help. But for the time being, my SC is 'level' once again 😁 YAY! to make do & Mend 😁
Lunch was tomato soup (blitzed and incorporating the small leftover portion of yesterday's veggie harira). I also swilled out the marm1te dupe jar and put that in - no complaints about "I don't like yeast spread", so a win. We had a YS'd cheese & onion 'sausage roll' each and a buttered wholemeal bap.
I spotted my first (I think) orange tipped butterfly in the garden today, and there have been a few of the very small, blue butterflies flitting about - mostly around the holly. I don't know if I mentioned we saw yellow brimstones on holiday - we're still waiting the swifts & swallows tho….
I haven't spent any money today, and shouldn't need to. I've not thought about what's for tea, but I'll rustle up something.

They're back!
I looked out of the patio door as a strange sounding little plane had caught my attention. Just in time to see the distinctive wheel of a bird…… I think it was most likely a swift, than a swallow, but it ducked away as some goldfinches set up. But where one comes, the others surely follow (unless the weather takes a turn for the worse). The weather is beautiful, I was serenaded by birdsong as I cooked.
We had Anjum Anand's Lemony spinach hotpot for tea, I don't think the recipe is online anywhere, I got it from one of her cookery books that I borrowed from the library. But it's a great recipe, and with a few amendments, it is something that I have the ingredients for most of the time. I served it with boiled basmati. Yoghurt and banana for pud.
Nothing MSE to report, but a NSD.

it's good to see women's sport on the ascendancy and that the skills and talents are being recognised. However, today at an under 7's footie match that a grandchild of ours was playing in, the excellent and fair female referee was subjected to the "bleeping women don't know what they are doing" type comment shouted by the manager of one of the teams. Unbelievable. However, hopefully this is now becoming the view of a very small minority and an even smaller minority will feel it's ok to say these things in front of their sons and daughters.

☹️
The only saving grace, is that a "manager" of that iteration would abuse a male ref too - although that would be on the basis of 'competency', not just because they were a chap…… 🙄 Problems leach into LG's school from these self-styled weekend football "managers". I'm sure really good people take on the role, wanting the kiddies to have fun, work as a team unit, and gain skills and showcase their talent. And then there's the "those that can't, brigade". What they convey to the kids, and the…… roughness, barging and use of shoving over any discernible talent that they encourage…. and don't get me started on 'girls can't play football with the boys' mentality 🙄
I hope your grandchild had fun, and enjoyed themselves playing footy, Blackcats.

Unfortunately children "catch" these problems. If no-one tells them that someone is different they don't seem to notice.

I absolutely agree with that. But the sources of….. "influence" are so much wider these days. There is a 'tone' in LG's primary school that is directly from a certain SM influencers playbook. Quite disgusting, and everyone in the school is at risk of being harmed by it. Certain kids taking on the influence unchecked, certain kids being the target of such heinous attitudes, and the majority of the staff being ignored, abused and ridiculed - simply because someone on t'internet says that's the way to be.
Nice start, weatherwise with us.
I want to try to get ahead with some batch cooking today. Also I need to get some stamps, as we're down to our last one. Yes, we are a family who still use the mail service. Yes, if push comes to shove, we'll ditch cards, letters and stamps, but - and I realise I'm a luddite - I'm still convinced a well thought out note, or nicely written birthday card or postcard beats an email or text. But the next step is to just not bother communicating thanks, sympathy or a cheerful hello. I'm not ready to embrace silo mentality just yet - time for that when I'm dead.
It was amazing to watch the sunrise this morning. It thankfully came up behind trees, so not directly looking at it, but it changed second by second, and the sun and surround was the colour of a grass fed chicken's egg yolk, absolutely stunning colour.
Thanks for popping in. I remain grateful for your company.

Would you consider doing the RM quality of service survey GP? You do need an app for your phone, but they don’t collect personal information and youearn a lot of stamps plus points exchangeable for a range of vouchers (including NT). It’s not a lot of work. If you are, I’ll see if I can find a link for signing up - there might be a wait and it’s six months on and six months (or a year 🙄) off so not a constant commitment.

I like receiving and sending cards, apart from those for Christmas. The latter always feel like a chore to me. (Not that I send very many any more.)
We had a beautiful sky this morning - no 'texture' to it but the most delicate shade of soft violet behind the Malvern hills - just lovely 😊
