  • Halfords may feel it wise publicity to make an ex-gratia goodwill payment, but that's a management decision and totally separate to the insurance claim.

But that is what some of us are talking about, it's not who pays it's the final figure the OP gets.

"The value of that car, immediately before the collision.

    No more, no less.

He had a car worth £X.
That car ceased to exist - so he has £X in his hand instead."

Clearly you fall into one of the following Categories :-
    1. Never had a non fault claim and negotiated a successful settlement
    2. Work in the insurance Industry.

Please ignore those who trot out this garbage, either clueless or biased.

I have negotiated plenty claims for both myself and others so I know full well what is achievable , they rely on the usual nonsense trotted out above to avoid paying out.

Just remember your legal claim is against Halfords, the insurance company act for them, if you are unhappy then issue proceedings against Halfords to recover your losses, its not difficult.

Many are considering this to be a normal accident / theft when it is far from it and HALFORDs are liable. What the insurance company is willing to pay-out is irrelevant, Halfords are the responsible party, they cannot hide behind their insurance companies attempts to shirk responsibility.

I won't comment further as there are too many industry players commenting / clueless individuals.

If you want genuine quality legal advice go to a solicitor.

Personally the way I have always done it, is pick what you feel is the correct figure , offer the insurance company a full and final settlement

We now have six pages of posts discussing how to fight unreasonable offers from Halfords and/or their insurers.

Unless I’ve missed it, the OP hasn’t reported any offers yet, reasonable or otherwise!

The OP came back the day after his first post but didn't clarify anything, offer any more information or ask any more questions, so I guess he didn't get the answers he was looking for.
  • Two instances where Halfords have accepted liability and paid out directly-

A Halfords spokesman said: “On this occasion we’ve clearly fallen short of our high standards.”

The firm has since refunded the full cost of its work.

A Halfords spokesperson said: “We take services and customer service very seriously, helping thousands of customers every week.

“On this occasion we have clearly fallen short of our high standards and are sorry for the inconvenience this has caused, especially over the festive period.

“We are pleased to have reached a resolution with Ms R----- and will be compensating her the cost of the remedial work, travel and the missed family events.”

Yep. Or he may have got an offer that was so good he’s disappeared on holiday ….

When you look at some of the "Angry from Mayfair" that are picked up nationally  including the BBC, eg Ryanair printing at airport cost, even though it in their T&Cs, this outstrips many of them, so be amazed if it wasn't picked up if OP chooses that path.

Apparently the OP according to industry experts (Bots) is only entitled to claim for the cost of an old knackered Alfa ......

Halfords’ paying Ms R for travel etc. doesn’t mean she was entitled to it.

Exactly. I doubt the OP is really going to care who exactly pays the money. Halfords would be foolish to not make some kind of good will gesture here.
