Be careful not to end up in an argument with Halford’s insurance company as they will just follow their process to minimise costs to them. Now you have their settlement figure, go to Halfords and see what they can do to make up the shortfall in a goodwill gesture. TBH, publicising it here has done you no favours as keeping the matter private would have been good leverage. However, you still have the option of going to the press with it as I’m sure one of the papers will be interested in ‘Halford’s boy racers trashed my pride and joy’ with you looking sad. If you get no joy, be prepared to escalate to the CEO.

I would be gutted if that happened to my pride and joy if it wasn't replaced like for like

Problem with that is My Jaguar XE would cost more today than it did 4 years ago

On a side note, no way is that a 25mph crash and the police would give you a more accurate speed
  • Insurance. End of. Your call whether to go through yours, or go directly to theirs. Yours still need to know, even if you claim direct from theirs.

Halfords' insurer owe you the market value of the vehicle immediately before the collision. No more, no less. They certainly don't owe you the value from a year ago of a vehicle that was still rapidly depreciating, even at six years old.

Your own insurer may have a replacement vehicle clause, or agreed value, if you claim through them directly - but probably not, unless you specifically bought a policy with those.

Anything more than that would be a customer service gesture.

The standard of driving is not your problem, nor will it reflect either way on your claim or the payout. That's between the driver, their employer, and the police.
  • I'm very sorry for this to have happened to you, I have had cars I have loved and can imagine how you feel.  Follow the advice given, especially start collecting proof of the value of your car.  If Halfords start messing you around something to keep up your sleeve until you really need it is the power of social media; you've already started here, but there's Facebook, all the review platforms and so on.  Hope you get it sorted.

While I sympathise greatly with the OP, I fear he's going to be disappointed with the outcome.

But there can't be many Alfa owners who aren't aware of the brand's (deserved) reputation for massive depreciation.

Are you suggesting it might have more value now than it did before the crash? ;)

    Sorry OP :(

He's already disappointed so no matter what anyone says it won't take that away

Feel that might be a wise move.
Much better for Halfords it reads  "we have agreed a settlement and taken action against the staff" than   "Halford refuse to compensate for loss of beloved car"
