Thanks, but no. Firstly because I have a 2-year contract with a better ISP and would be in the same situation with them, and secondly because I have belatedly read customer reviews on sites other than "Trustpilot" and found them almost uniformly negative. It also irritates me that POPtelecom's own customer service e-mail address is at... poptelecom.co.uk
That will be something they have to pay extra (server hosting) for as part of the domain name.
Because it implies an e-mail service.

No it doesn't in any way shape or form. It implies they have registered a domain for their own business purposes.
You are really stretching your interpretations.1 -
Re the title of your thread:3rdman said:Via MoneySavingExpert I came to POPtelecom. Their advert offers “a basic plan to get your emails or ...superfast broadband for streaming and gaming”
In fact they do not have an e-mail service at all: you are expected to use some other service. Once this was clear I cancelled my direct debit and then cancelled POP telecom. They promptly attempted to take money from my bank.
I returned the modem within 14 days of delivery, which I think liquidates the contract. POP telecom have refused to refund me and are trying to extract an absurdly high termination fee.
I do not hold MoneySavingExpert responsible but I do think that having any link to POP telecom brings MSE into disrepute.
Have you read MSE rules on active boycotting?0 -
You say you’ve been online for 25 years, but you are acting like you are entitled to an email.3rdman said:born_again said:

Eh? Like every other business which has its own domain, do you mean?3rdman said:

The OP came looking for people to back up their thinking, not have their mind changed with reason.
They may get the provider to compromise, or it may be an expensive outcome, but given the action the OP has already taken, cancelling the contract and taking out another, unless they cancel the new one within the 14 days (but doesn't sound like they will) then they are going to be trying to get out of one of them.2 -

The advert says "a basic plan to get your emails" POPtelecom's customer service address is at poptelecom.co.uk
To me this implies an e-mail service, in the same way that "diesel" on my car's filler cap tells me what fuel the car takes.

Well obviously I'm behind the times, but to me an ISP without an e-mail service is like a bike with no front wheel.

You very much clearly are. Or you’re expecting a Rolls Royce for the price of a bus ticket. Pop Telecom’s are a budget provider. You get what you pay for in terms of the ‘extras’ like email. Most people now just want a stable reliable internet connection.3rdman said:RefluentBeans said:

Well obviously I'm behind the times, but to me an ISP without an e-mail service is like a bike with no front wheel.FYI you can get a free email address with far better service and better security than ones provided by ISP’s. Better security is needed as if you lose access to your email then your entire digital life can be compromised including bank accounts, savings, taxes and even stuff like NHS information. Not to mention all the online orders.2 -
Assuming you mean Web search, that's a question you're asking which is not how you search. No wonder you got results on transferring to a new ISP *which you then draw conclusions from.3rdman said:PHK said:I don't think many people would see "a basic plan to get your emails " as meaning they are an email provider. That would be highly unusual.
I think most people would read that as providing a small amount of bandwidth suitable for emails.
Especially as very very few people use an email address provided by their Internet provider.
I ran an internet search on "UK ISPs without an e-mail service". It drew a blank: not even POPtelecom came up. All I found was advice on how to transfer your e-mail address to your new ISP.0
