@soappie my uncle was born in Hull and his mother's uncle was from Yarmouth so maybe it happens in lots of places.@pigpen I don't know if there's a specialist nurse, or even how I would contact him/her if there is. These large London hospitals are quite difficult to deal with. It's very hard to contact anyone as they don't really want you ringing up or just turning up. I always have Milton in stock as I use it to clean the white kitchen sink once a week (aspirational) and the washing-up pads. As you say, there must be a better way as boiling a flannel each night on top of all the other pre-bedtime things I have to do just isn't going to happen.@Jayzee I think the boiling is to make it sterile as you say, not just to heat it up, so wetting it under the hot tap wouldn't be any good.It was raining quite heavily overnight and first thing but by 10.00 had more or less stopped, so after administering eye drops and vacuuming the condensation off the windows (they weren't too bad this morning) I went to the shops for a few things. On the way there and on the way back I called in to the little post office in a local convenience store to buy Christmas stamps, plus some ordinary ones, but both times the counter was closed as the person working on it was on a break or engaged in doing something else (they all have to multi-task in there).Came back, made lunch, washed up, fed the Christmas cake, administered eye drops, made a cup of tea and a pikelet for A and a coffee for myself, administered eye drops (I'm behind schedule on those
but remembering to do them every 2.5 - 3 hours is proving quite challenging). I now need to wash up the tea things and do a small grocery order. Then it will be time to think about this evening's meal, making sure I fit it around Strictly and more eye drops.

Good news that the conservatory is done Narco, and superwell done on the slinky front.Round, if you're having to repressure the boiler every couple of days it sounds as though you have a leak somewhere. We had the same situation here years ago (and two boilers ago, come to that) and it turned out to be the pressure vessel. The floor under the boiler and across the kitchen was completely drenched.
Very pleased with yesterday's kitchen activity. I've found a really simple digestive biscuit recipe because all the commerical ones have palm oil in and we don't do palm oil, but Belovéd really likes them with cheese. Also made a batch of ginger Twinks, a batch of yoghurt and fed the Christmas cake.We got all the Christmas gibble down from the attic this morning, so while I was up there I put all the stuff that's been dumped where it should have been. That counts as flying, doesn't it? Belovéd has decked the halls with all of it, hurrah, and vacuumed most of the house so he's my hero today.I had to play freezer tetris to get the bits of shopping in from Thursday that needed to be in there, walked the dog, refilled all her meal boxes, dealt with the baked red peppers, and tried to reconcile my bank statement but failed miserably. I also managed to book the dog in for doggie day care on Friday when we're having a day out in Ashburton which is a vastly under-rated town I spent a couple of hours in waiting for a bus while hiking this summer and fell in love with. We're meeting friends for lunch there in a fabulous pub I discovered while being very touristy. That will be it for Christmassy outings so I'm going to make the most of it.
Better is good enough.8 -
Rather wet and windy first thing but I still managed a short lake swim.
- Went into town with Mr N and bought new floor panels and some more Christmas cards. He has managed to get out all the rotten floor and it is drying nicely after a day with a fan heater; I dread the bill, but at least we had some sun/bright spells so the solar will have contributed a bit.
- collected some foliage from the garden; golly it is wet everywhere, but managed to find enough greenery to do the 2 arrangements I need. Did one this afternoon for our neighbours who kindly hosted our cars while our drive was full of builders/plumbers vans. We took it round and they asked us in for coffee/tea, which was lovely as the husband is not very mobile now so we don't see much of him unlike when we first moved in and he spent a lot of the time gardening. I have good memories of swapping plants and ideas over the fence. As an aside, his father built our house as well as his.
- did as much tidying as I could in a kitchen which is full of conservatory plants, flowers and foliage and various bits of gibble.
- spent ages looking at a map after one of our zumba group rang asking for a lift to the lunch party tomorrow. I'm fond of her and it's not a million miles, but it is well out of my way as I'm already picking up another lady in the opposite direction. Could make timing a bit tight and I hope there aren't as many floods on the roads as there were when I went to the lake and town today.
- Laid out my costume for tomorrow's lunch/dance as I won't have much time to change; I'm hoping to go to church which is 2 villages away (can't get to the one in our village as I'll be at the lunch). I told the vicar last week that I had to go to a lunch so I hoped the sermon wouldn't be too long.
- Did less than I'd hoped of latest report.
- had a confusing and frustrating phone discussion with my Mum about brick paving and wi-fi. Don't ask!! Am expecting DB to ring me tomorrow unloading his side of the discussions. Sigh.
- put away some dry washing.
- paid cc bill.
Tried a new recipe (the butterbean stew from Mr T's magazine - not bad but not brilliant as I'm not an enormous fan of creme fraiche) Then slobbed out to watch Strictly and Rylan & Cher.Remember...a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it.9 -

Good morning my lovelies xx
I have a chocolate hangover.... and, coincidentally, I need to buy DSil a new box of after dinner mints. 😚 I blame Strictly- needed something to nibble / inhale whilst watching.
I hear you HB. And, after reading your post, I quickly looked ceilingward as the boiler is upstairs in a bedroom.....no, I don't know why either 🤔. Anyhoo the last Mario to visit said twas a thingummy that was causing the boiler to spit water out of the overflow to avoid over pressure while operating. Resulting in an overall loss of pressure. I thought he'd fixed said thingummy but perhaps it's blocked again? Or maybe the whachamacallit has gone now. Or the ooojamaflip. 🤷♀️
I got up at 7.10am as you do on a Sunday when you could stay in bed til dinner / lunch / whatever you call it in your neck of the woods. I've made my bed, had a brew, taken my meds, completed Wordle and Connections, checked under the boiler for any evidence of water damage , and played Solitaire. I am now ready for brew 2, breakfast, and parrots.
Have a good day

Yesterday I didn't do much really - dropped the loaded scone off to DGD who enjoyed it but looked very pale and sickly.
Did a load of washing and put it on the airer in front of the fire to dry.
Then went to bed for a lie-down after lunch and fell into a deep sleep for nearly two hours so that was yesterday avo gone!
Today, I am dressed, have breakfasted and taken my meds. Am now going to crack on with the basket of ironing.
I also need to write the Christmas cards ready to take them to the post office tomorrow. While I'm there, I also need to transfer money from one bank account to another via cheque.
Apart from those two things, there's not much urgent on the list of stuff to do so I might just have a lazy day as I'm still coughing up green stuff from deep within my lungs (sorry if that's TMI!).I am the leading lady in the movie of my life

Morning all
I was also up early, Round. So far I have emptied the DW, WUDUPA, cleared out the fire and re-lit it, moved the ewes (hallelujah), fed everyone and FUPA the laundry that dried by the fire last night.
Next job is for DD to get a shower and then I’ll have one. She has lots of homework to do. I need to make packed lunches and we are having a lamb roast for Sunday lunch. Quote received for kitchen fire, wasn’t as bad as I thought but still lots. Booked in for February, so I have to be super frugal otherwise I’ll have to cancel it. I have posted my budget on the frugal living thread if anyone is interested.
Have fab Sundays all xx7 -
Morning all
It’s a late start from me, although I did wake up at the workday alarm time of 6.15am, but somehow managed to stay in bed for another couple of hours after that 😳. Nothing to do with the late night / early morning out last night with our friends of course. Neither is the vague hangover that I’m in the process of clearing with a couple of cups of tea. Walking back, the stars were absolutely amazing.
I managed to get most of my flying jobs done yesterday that I had on my list. I even squeezed in a couple of hours to make a few Christmas cards. The few that we have to post have been sent. DH has just got the wrapping paper down from the loft, so today’s task is to get wrapping. I also need to cobble up a couple of “experience vouchers” for people, as we are going to treat them for a day out rather than buy something for the sake of it. DH has, for once, come up trumps with finding places to go with them, so hopefully the idea will go down well.
The wm is swishing, I need to go and sort DH’s tax return out, as he is procrastinating around and he just needs to hit the button to send it.
It feels like a slow kinda day, so I think that is more than enough to be getting on with.
HB - my grandparents lived in Ashburton, before it became a well known foodie place. I used to love waking up there and seeing the brooding moors from the bedroom window. Many hours were spent walking the lanes with their dog. My other memory there is of Brentford Nylon pink and orange sheets on the bed…

I'm dressed, fed the birds, retrieved the recycling box that had blown about the garden last night, put out the recycling, done a laundry shuffle, phoned S and texted L.
I've also retrieved L's Christmas and Birthday presents from the ottoman and sourced a couple of gift bags from my stash.
Priorities today are
WUDUPA
Wrap L's presents
Order repeat prescription
Coffee next. My head is still banging. 🤕
