The pain of the roof will be worth it in the long run, and it should help future proof for your FIRE plans."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee3

Worth spending to get the roof sorted you would have had to do it eventually and prices are only going to go up. That is what an emergency fund is for so you now have time to build up again for another big expense. Hope he gets someone to help with the work and the weather stays calm it is horrible here.Save £12k in 25 No 49

Nearly all roof damage will get progressively worse - and if it leaks you could get serious water damage. The sooner it's fixed, the less it will cost you. Making sure the roof was sound and water-tight was the very first thing we did when we moved in and I am very grateful the house has remained dry - particularly last night when we had torrential rain... again 😆
It's a good decision.

Thanks KK, busybus, Jwil, FS and TG - roof down - wind and watertight. I agree that's the priority however painful it is to spend the £. KK I agree the house will thank me too.
Roofer has just arrived but I can't see anyone with him. I asked him to take photos from the roof of the view for me. Stunning! Naturally he also sent me before and after shots of what he's done.
Cat went out overnight and was back this morning for what may be the first time here - the other times he's come back late afternoon or evening mostly.
Hopefully next week will be a lot less costly!Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

You knew the house needed some love, as did all the others in some shape or form, but in a way you didn't buy the house for what it was but what it represented. The great views, bringing dreams forward and also closure.
It's great the roofer is showing photos of the work needed and when done. A nice little touch and reassuring; it may even go up on his website or be used to show potential customers of his ability too.
All the big jobs will be done this year, therefore, take a breather and do some art.

I did root some stuff out the garage as he opened it for me. I didn't relock it but hopefully it will be ok.
I found my seeds and seed trays and manual propagators. I found the bulbs and planted them.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030
