That happened to me when I moved, SH. I put the bins out and checked and double checked the days as noone else seemed to have theirs out. The bin folk duly appeared, so I was right. Not sure what the neighbours were up to 😂.

Did I miss a post where the survey said about needing ties? It may be worth a chat with the surveyor to see if he has any recommendations. Also take a walk round a few local roads, see if any had roof works, new drive etc, ask if they recommend who did it and if so get the company details. Don't forget to ask your handyman as he will have contacts or know who to avoid.

We have 'sock' moisture absorbers in the bedroom, I'll send you a link.

As for the carpet. You could try a healthy sprinkle of neutrad0l all over, but please keep the door firmly closed and your cat downstairs. I can't promise it will work as your brain might always think the smell is still around. If you do opt for replacing the carpet and underlay, get both removed first, sprinkle some down and then have new flooring in.
    - first try leaving the window open all day, close the door to avoid the cold spreading, and see if that helps.

You will always find things needing changed or fixed when moving home. I'd suggest starting a list and add things as they appear, then have another list with "important, can wait and want". Filter things to each list. Although I suspect all will be under important due to ADHD traits and having money burning in your pocket at the moment.
    - I know it's easy for most of us to say slow down girl!

Try and step back and remember the saying about R0me not being built in a day.

Is updating your licence and tax man of your move on the list? The latter are not always told by employers.

I bet the snow views were good. Wait until there's a sudden heavy snowfall or when the sun is waking / going to sleep and be ready with your camera, sketch pad etc.

It will be interesting seeing how your art evolves after you've settled in too as that's mood and feeling based.

Loads going on!  Good idea to take unpaid leave to get on top of things.

Hi KK - Yesterday I cut up gel plate printed papers and stuck them in my journal to pretty it up. I'm hoping I'll have some art time this weekend. I still have a lot of unpacking and organising left to do - so also need to do more of that. I have another person to quote for the guttering, roof etc at midday tomorrow and hopefully one this afternoon.

Thanks Elisheba. I heard it get emptied this morning. Still need to go out and collect it. I don't know what the neighbours were doing either. Perhaps they are all early risers.

Thanks MF. Yes the surveyor gave a long list of hazards/issues... gable end ties were on there plus there were more that were invisible due to too much stuff in the room on the day he came. I'm planning to get initial quotes and then vet them with someone that they mean more to like sis and BIL &/or the roofer neighbour &/or possibly the new handyman.

Thanks for the link. The problem is I can't stand the smell of neutradol - it sets off my allergies. I've already tried the windows thing and that didn't work. I have an air purifier in there and that's not changing it enough either. I will try my Dad's fave of a cut open onion - but need to buy one first. I have a long list by priority. Other than the flooring, I've only spent a few hundred quid so far and that was on mainly on a rug, plants, robo vacuum, doorbell - the rest are on my list that is prioritised - but just trying to understand what the budget needs to be.

If the roof needs doing it will erode my EF - but I'm trying to say to myself - it was the potential for roof costs that made me want such a big EF so it all it would mean is the spend is brought forward - and then I'd potentially have a 20 year guarantee. It may however not need doing yet. I need to really get to grips with - is there actually any water ingress in the roof - as if there's not - it can potentially wait - but I don't want to get to the point where my nice white plastered walls and ceilings have water ingress so it is a balance.

I think I've told the essential people now MF. I will email my pension provider as well as apparently the work ICT system should do that but often doesn't.

Thanks Jwil. Yes I needed more time off - and didn't want to feel a fraud either as my concentration is patchy. As of midday I have broadband so that's positive.

Hoping to let the cat out at some point next week which should also make my life a little easier.

You do seem very busy and keen to get everything done. Please do slow down and make time to think about the big stuff that needs doing. Honestly things are so much cheaper if done in the right order so do stop and think so you have a list of what you would like to have done so it can be done in the right order. Surprisingly our wooden flooring was laid before they painted due to the skirting boards but best check. Bet the cat cannot wait to be let out mine hate being stuck inside.

Do a cut lemon or if you've any oil burners, joss sticks etc try those over an onion.

Keep getting quotes as you'll get a feeling for the right person and what work is actually needed. Can't remember if you've a scanner, if so send the info to BIL and do a video call to talk it through.

Try and get a creative area set up for escape from reality and pace yourself unpacking, just do one box and enjoy your home. Your life is demanding enough without internal pressure to have it all unpacked and in it's place.

Unfortunately it is more likely that they don't bother doing any recycling.  I did have a word with some people at a Xmas party many years ago who were whinging about all the new recycling bins they were given & that they weren't going to do THAT.  I did just happen to tell them that the info that came through the door at the same time explained the difference in costs between the disposal of the contents of the bins.  I (not very gently I must confess) thanked them for being the ones responsible for putting up our council tax because of the extra emptying their bins would cost.  Funnily enough they started talking about what they could put in each bin.  Nothing like a bit of self interest.  Makes you wonder though why a council bothers sending out info when it is obvious that so many people just ignore it.  I look at it to check if there is any way I can use it to save money.  Must have been on MSE for too long, far longer than my username.
