There really is nothing like a bit of self interest to get some people motivated. Wish it wasn't true but unfortunately it is.

So much happening!
Good news on the blood tests - that's very reassuring.
getting quotes can be such a hassle. I'm assuming the roof is a priority? Is the drive essential right now?Would it help to focus on one big project at a time?
hope you can enjoy some leisure fun this weekend.2 -
Just wondering if you could dispose of the bedroom carpet for now? When we were much younger we didn't have carpet while we were doing the house up, but we were lucky as the floorboards weren't too bad. I do remember almost losing a bracelet down between the boards once, but you could always put rugs down for now. Just a thought.

With the bedroom carpet have you dried sprinkling bicarbonate of soda, brushing it in, leaving it for a few hours and then vacuuming it back up again?

Well I feel I can breathe again. Just had another roofer around. He reckons £4.1K would do my sofits, guttering, fascias, felt and batton and remove a rotten meter of felt next to fascias and repoint the ridge tiles. He says the insides of my roof are sound - no water ingress - and everything is adequately fixed in and supported. He's going to put it in writing and get it across to me today in writing. Said roof work would then be guaranteed 25 years.
Another person was due at 12pm but he's not turned up yet - but I'd be happy with this guy at that price. That was more around the ballpark of what I was expecting - £3K ish for the guttering etc (which fits with online estimates pre purchase of what to expect on a 3 bed and then he's allowed around £1K for work on the roof.
I made a little art yesterday. I also nipped out in the evening to the R*ng3 and Sainsbugs.
On the recycling collections - it could be that they just put it out fortnightly - as mine wasn't full - so maybe they didn't see the need to put it out. I heard some get emptied last week - as that was what prompted me to check how it worked here. I find weekly collections a bit ridiculous but had a full size bin which I often filled with cardboard - where here you just get a sack and a few crates but it's emptied weekly. It will just take some getting used to.
I just want to know where I stand with my budget - hence getting the quotes and don't want to fully unpack if I need to move furniture or for the new flooring so want to try and resolve that asap. Similarly if I live with the driveway too long - I won't do it but could regret it later. And as we've found recently costs have only been going up in recent times.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Sounds good re. the roof quote savingholmes and 25 year guarantee sounds great. You've probably thought of this, but I read an MSE post in the week about guarantees and someone asked what would happen if the trader closed their business. It isn't something I've ever thought about before when I've had work done, but I think there was a question of an insurance backed guarantee.

Good news on the roof quote
We're weekly recycling here, it's nice having a clean slate each week."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee3 -
You sound more positive towards this roofer. Check if it's a guarantee from his business (no use if the business goes) or insurance backed (scan the certificate and keep the original in a safe place).
- get suitable storage for all the paperwork.

Thanks MF, Sandy and Jwil
I've had his quote through. He's put a 15 year guarantee in practice.
The second roofer of the day was unimpressive. Didn't bring his ladders or go up outside. Did go up in the loft but then didn't put the hatch back which I had a panic about. I managed to put it back but was ultra annoyed as I have a deliberate policy of not going in the loft / up a ladder near stairs living alone.
On art & this is something I started in my journal and added to this week. I never stop doing art but the scale and complexity change depending on time and headspace...
This was all black and white originally. I added the house pre move And added colour and detail this week. I find this kind of doodling calming.
I've done some gel plate prints yesterday and today which was fun.
I've bought plant pots for outside, some more compost and some pansies and more narcissi. Hopefully I will plant up tomorrow.
Hope you are having a lovely weekend.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030
