I agree with not heading back too quickly. It's also a good idea to slow down with the work and take some time to enjoy your house as well."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee2

Your plans for the garden sounds lovely make sure it is low maintenance with those slopes and safe. Vincas are good weed suppressants and very pretty too. I also like hardy geranium they are great for ground cover and spread nicely. I have the Rozanne one very easy to deal with and can be divided. My gardener who helped me earlier in the Winter planted Allium bulbs I cannot wait for them to come up they add nice height and the colour should be lush.
Glad you are slowing down on the inside building work as I have said before and learnt the hard way you really do need to live with things before you will know what suits best. Living with someones bodged jobs is a pain so best to leave the big jobs in case it all needs to come out. Rewiring is messy costly and horrible to live in while it is going on but it is also a joy to have plug points in all the right spaces especially when WFH.
Hope you take another week off sick, work can wait and do get phased return you are entitled so do not suffer in silence. Have a lovely weekend when it gets here.Save £12k in 25 No 49

I want to know just how blingy those tiles are that need glare reduction !!Take your time to sleep and heal - you getting ill again will only mean more time off workDON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Thanks Jwil, TG and @LadyWithAPlan
Imagine virtually every inch of wall covered with this tile. As a border it would be pretty but at this quantity it is just too much visual data. There are no resting spaces. Nowhere to put a picture. No colour.
I have broken it up since with some coloured vinyl on the glass as I kept walking into it as it's opposite the door and pretty close to it.
That top square shower just dribbles cold water on you so probably having that removed at some point too. There's a shower wand uselessly in a corner which I have to hold when I shower.... Etc... plus it's all leaking....

TG - I'm hoping that an electrician would just put a new fuse board in rather than rewire the lot but who knows. Not got to that bit yet. There are two spare slots on the fuse board - but the handyman says they haven't got the 30 minute protection they should have in case of fire. That is what worried him.
On the garden - I do love geranium for the ground cover element and brought some with me in pots. Mine is pink - but I like the purple one too. I also brought forget me nots and muscari (grape hyacinth) with me which are spreaders so long term expect to have good ground cover.
As KK suggested variegated vinca is nice - but the ones I bought aren't variegated - only because that wasn't available on the day.
Jwil - there is a tiny bit of spare kitchen flooring in the garage - so the handyman is going to redo part by the back door where for some reason they used similar but different patterned stuff and left a bit by the back door when they replaced it (roll eyes). The handyman has also said that the seller possibly used too small a door for the gap and hasn't packed it very well - so I think he said he'd buy some UPVC trim to make that look better and give it a better seal.
Someone is coming to measure my patio door properly next Friday - but said if I measure it and a downstairs toilet window I'd like to change - they can quote in the meantime and I can perhaps pick a style of door. That feels more urgent as I can't open my patio doors and they are fixed in place by curtain pole holders rather than anything more secure!!! It makes me feel a little claustrophobic as I'd have to go further to escape the space if there was a fire. In one door the glass has also clouded.
I've requested a quote from a builder. I'm told he has a 6 month waiting list for actual works but that could be a good thing.
I've also requested a quote for a deep clean from a local cleaning company and said I'd potentially be interested in a regular cleaner. They've just said they are fully booked. Argh!!! Need to look for another option now. They seemed the best rated.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

I've just booked a 4 hour clean next Friday and if that person is ok, potentially 2 hours a week thereafter. I can review if I want it to change to fortnightly later.
Someone else is coming to quote on patio and garage door on Monday. They said they did next door so I need to try and speak to the neighbour over the weekend.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Glad you've got the good handyman to give you advice and help sort out some of the bodging.
Good news about the cleaner and the other quotes as well."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee3 -
It's great you've found a back up cleaner, hope they work out.
Personally I'd go for 2 weeks with the note, takes extra pressure off you and if you do feel well enough can sort out the phased return. Sorry if I've missed it but have OH been in contact?
