Decluttering is my ongoing challenge - the problem is that I bring more things in than take out. At least until now. I am DETERMINED to get rid of stuff, make space in the bedroom drawers and stop being attached to things I haven't seen in 5 years, don't use, don't need and yet am driven to keep.:confused:

I did give away a huge number of books last year - some went to the local hospital for their shop and library and some went to a university library. Space which held approx 300 books is now filled with paper, folders and other 'junk'.

Just need a big pair of scissors to cut the umbilical cord!

Good luck to everyone, whether your challenge is small or large!
  • Sorry to be so negative in this brilliant thread. I dug out my 2007 resolutions recently and I was nowhere near achieving any of them, so I'm not even going to bother this year, then I won't be disappointed. Perhaps I am a lazy S*d or perhaps I set my sights too high.

I am technically a newbie here but have been reading lots since December last year, I feel a real connection to the OS board. I'm comfortable with the meal planning and budgeting, the breadmaking etc but I have to admit that flylady leaves me a little embarrased at the state of my house...

    I have the following resolutions:

1 - Shop locally & buy ONLY what I need for the week ahead.
2 - Ensure I complete my budget planner daily - doing it daily keeps me focused.
3 - Avoid online shopping unless it is for something I REALLY need.
4 - Save Jan-June child benefit (£170 a month) to pay for Xmas '08. Buy everything by end of Sept for Xmas.
5 - Waste not want not. Make sure all those leftovers are either used up within a couple of days or frozen - not chucked out!

  • Hi all

What a great thread. I've found myself agreeing with loads of the resolutions on here and am guilty of trying to do too much, falling at the first hurdle and ending up giving up on everything. So I'm going to only choose 2 or 3 things for this year and stick to them. :p

    1. Sign up for and keep going on the monthly grocery challenges. Even if I don't make it one month, I won't get disheartened.

    2. Keep up with FLYlady. Even just level 1. Now I'm back at work it's harder than before but if I could get my house tidy I'd be less stressed. Tidy house, tidy mind and all that.

    3. (I'm shamelessly going to steal Jack's number 6 for this one) Count my blessings. Yes I can have a wee moan but you know what, I've got so, so much to be thankful for. :j

And on that happy note, I wish you all a very happy Hogmanay!!

    Here's to 2008!

  • Ok I have been thinking long and hard about mine.

    1. To do more reading
    2. To loose 3 more stone ( have already lost 3 stone in the past 14 weeks )
    3. Meal plan

Good luck to you all with yours:j

    3) Use flylady thread support and sort out our house (it's a tip)
    4) save money and pay off 10% of mortgage this year
    5) successfully get back to work
    6) lose weight
    7) regularily exercise
    8) Read a book a week (at least)
    9) Get the garden sorted
    10) Hook the sewing machine out and get sewing
Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

    Peony's Resolutions

    1) Start reading again, at least a chapter a day of a fiction book
    2) Menu Plan on a weekly basis
    3) Try one new recipe a week
    4) Do at least one job a week in the garden
    5) Memorise one positive affirmation a day (I can be too hard on myself and I vow to stop this in 2008)
    6) Go out and find a new job, as it's highly likely I may lose my job in the next month or two

I think this is enough to be getting on with :D

Wishing you all a Happy New Year.

The penny in the jar thingy - that is brilliant! Thanks Mazza.

Beat my addiction to chocolate - it is really spoiling my weight loss, I do believe it is a drug for me, as I cannot control how much I eat and actually want to be nearly at the point of feeling sick. UGH.

Mind you I think I will be quite grumpy for a while!

    Give up being grumpy??
