  • I would to know how National Grid can judge the weather better than the Met Office, no bluddy sun, nor wind and they were Right 😎 Mind you currently using 10% biomass , so carbon neutral out the window.

    A good indicator
  • I will be making efforts to pin ours down a little more for next time, although I was scuppered a little by the heating kicking in just before start time, and me only noticing that half an hour in… it has however given us a good guideline around what is, and isn’t worth switching off at the wall ready for next time, and realistically, deferring cooking tea until after it finished wasn’t any sort of hardship.

We don’t have a huge amount of scope for savings, but going forwards I’ll be actively aiming to ensure that certain things do routinely run in that 1600-1900 window and so may hopefully build a better picture for building savings in future savings sessions.

I opted in and went out at 17:25 so the only things on using power were the fridge, freezer and three Alexa devices compared to two PC's the surround sound, the Xbox or PS4 and TV so I should make a big saving as I would have used about 1.4 kWh in the hour.
Someone please tell me what money is

Don't you now have gas central heating?  What am I missing that makes GCH relevant to the electricity savings sessions?

Ah okay, thanks.  (I've never had gas and really don't know anything about it.)
  • Yeah Spoonie I wouldn’t have thought of the pump on the central heating using electricity either until fairly recently - I mean it’s logical that it will of course, but not necessarily something you think about is it! Last night certainly established that it uses very little of it though, so that’s good! 😁 (and next time I will be tweaking the thermostat down!)

Modern pumps can use very little power, i think we worked out in a past thread that a combi uses around 50w total?

Yes that aligns with my own findings when we replaced a 20yr old original house build supplied GCH "small system boiler", associated hot water tank and high power circulation pump with a modern singular combi boiler unit.

Both the gas and power usage has dramatically reduced.
