  • Depending on the payout and length it will work out as 8-10 days free electricity for our electric only house over winter.

    Took dog for walk rather than sit in cold and darkness. Came back to find son had come home from work just after I left - lights blazing, heating fired up, oven, hob and microwave whirring away, two tvs talking over each other... Still saved 25p though.
  • I don’t trust the data they’re providing. The last couple of sessions last year and both sessions this year they give 0 savings for me. Sure we don’t tend to use a lot of electricity at the savings times on other days but I’ve definitely switched off appliances that would normally be on and using electricity but still get 0. I don’t think the scheme is worth the effort.
    If you use the API link it gives what that thinks is your baseline and a breakdown for each of the half-hours for each session.  Maybe it'll show you what's going on (for this winter anyway).

    I just get an error when I launch it. Does it require a specific browser? (I tried Mesh and Chrome both on desktop).

    Do you not trust that your smart meter is accurate, or are you saying that Octopus is fraudulently altering the readings it receives before recording them on your account? The readings Octopus uses can be downloaded and checked. It is also possible to independently obtain readings from another source such as Bright. The third possibility of course is that you are mistaken about making savings on those days compared to your in-day adjusted baseline usage. Also worth bearing in mind that this year the savings calculation is different.
    All I can say is that I checked all of my figures last year against the Ofgem published calculation and they were fine.

    I can't imagine they're deliberately fiddling the figures for me!!! But perhaps they aren't correctly recording my data in detail, either due to a fault in how my meter reports or bugs in their software? Anyway, if I can get the saving session app link to work I may be able to look at the data in more detail. Even last year I never got more than a couple of quid a session (well, maybe 1 session I got over £2), so it hardly seems worth worrying about checking out.

    It's been working for me on Firefox just fine until just now, so I suspect there's an issue with the website at the moment

    Potentially you will also have a billing issue if the meter isn't accurately recording your usage or there are bugs in the software handling them, and that may be more of a problem for you. It is not unheard of for issues like this to occur, but they are very rare. First thing to check is that your account is being billed using the correct meter. Then run some tests using a plug in power meter vs your account data.
    I doubt you will find any discrepancies if you do decide to test your hypothesis. The most likely explanation for your observation is that you didn't understand the impact the "in-day adjustment" had on the calculated savings. The IDA no longer features in the calculation as of this year.

    There was up to a week's difference in results coming out on the first event.

    29th is showing on my account but the 1st still calculating.  However I've had an email this evening telling me my overall points for both of those sessions.  The email does say that well over 500,000 customers joined each session so that probably explains why results are coming in at different times - lots of numbers to crunch!

    Saving Sessions are only about saving electricity, to reduce/balance the demand on the electricity grid at peak times.

    Only electricity.

    And for results, I've had them through for the first two so far (a week later after each), still waiting for the latter two.
