Just put my dinner on to cook.

Yep we had our showers and cooked tea all between 6 and 7, which was a challenge, but hey :p
Am I missing something?  You’re supposed to try and use less electricity than you normally do during the saving sessions.
I assume that some people have decided to protest about the amounts now being offered by savings sessions by instead opting to use more energy than they usually would that those times...

Maybe protest is a bit strong.
Simply deciding to not bother, as OK you are saving a bit off your bill (not counting the uploaders here) But a bonus 2p in octopoints is not exactly something of incentive to keep interest in these sessions.🤷‍♀️

I agree with this, I am signing up to the sessions, but in general I am in no way incentivised by a few pence. On some of tests last year and the year before I could go to the pub for an hour, have a couple of pints and still be better off when I got home, now with the shift in the window and the very low rate offered for reduction even if I turned everything off on the consumer unit I would be lucky to make more than a few pence. I just carry on as normal and if I make a bit because I accidentally use a bit less then great, but otherwise I am not bothered.

which appears from the "challenge" bit to be an attempt to use more power in that hour than would usually be used.

The downside is the more people that increase their consumption during peak time/during saving sessions, the more gas will be burned.

    Not good for the environment.

Sadly it seems burning gas to make electricity is cheaper at times of stress on the grid than using battery power via DFS

I think that's because the gas generators are paid a lot to be on standby just in case. Actually asking them to ramp up doesn't cost much more. Hence it's seen as cheaper than DFS battery power.

NESO want to get the best prices - but the way things are it is a bit flawed.
PPI success. Banding success. Double Dip PCN cancelled! South facing solar (Midlands) and battery. Savings Session supporter (is it worth it now!?)

Is the opt-in button visible in your online account in the Octoplus section? It's under the rewards stuff?

I was wondering if they had confused the saving session with the “all you can eat, that gets refunded” sessions Octopus were previously running.

That button isn't the correct one for the Savings Sessions. You should be opting in to get Octopoints. What does it say under Octopoints history?

You are supposed to cut down on usage, not increase it which is what that description says.
