..don't see the point, joined a couple in the early days, but now find the "invites" come in with insufficient time to plan, and normally only "save" about 20p (if that), can't be bothered with them anymore.....preferred the occasional "free/reduced cost energy for an hour", but they seem to have given up on those.."It's everybody's fault but mine...."1

It is my understanding that NESO (now owned by HM government) is more interested in keeping the total cost of balancing the network down. There are also more grid scale batteries connected, and because they're not restricted by gas prices, they can balance the grid for lower cost.
Someone mentioned fast frequency response; that service is still there, but there are more grid scale batteries connected than are needed for that service, so the incentive /investment to extend that to domestic batteries disappeared.
It is my understanding that NESO is trying to normalise domestic demand side response without financial incentives. It will be interesting to see the data at the end of the season and whether it has backfired.
I can't find it now, but I did see a statistic about the volume and cost of balancing the network in Jan 2024 Vs Jan 2025. In short, 2025 used more (in GWh), but was considerably lower cost - I think by a factor of 10 (in £billions). It is a lot of money that won't need to be passed as standing charges.
