Octopus saving sessions

Would make more sense to stop the reward for upload. As that is not really in the spirit of saving energy.
If they want to encourage battery users to do this, then set up bonus payments for certain high use periods just for them. The whole point of the savings sessions was to avoid having to turn on a high cost gas powered power station when demand exceeded supply, which can be done by some customers reducing demand, and other customers, those exporting from batteries, increasing the supply. It makes sense for those of us with batteries to top up our batteries when the demand was lower, and send it back when it's higher. Or just export what we've stored from the panels. Octopus have a tariff that will already use homeowners batteries in this way as a mini storage system to call upon when needed, if you have a particular brand of battery, which ours isn't.We're not 'gaming' the system.

So you can have your cake & eat it, & let the people who do not (can not afford) the facility to get a larger pay out on their part of the saving sessions to cut actual supply demand.
Although to be honest. They have run their course now.Life in the slow lane0 -
But why do you think your energy saving is worth more than my export? It has cost me money to generate or buy in that electric to be able to export it, so I'm not getting the same value as you anyway.

Needs to be 2 separate schemes.
As uploading is not actually saving, in the true sense of the word.Life in the slow lane0 -
I've sent the email.
I use PredBat now, and I believe that will be aware of the saving sessions - so it might export if it feels it is worth it (e.g. what price did the battery fill at, what losses are there converting to DC and back, and what export price there is).
I don't think I'd go to the effort of scheduling an export manually for that price.
Everyone helps with these sessions. Wether you cut down your usage or increase your export, it is all helping the grid and reducing demand on dirty fuels.
Some might do both - cut down their usage and export (e.g. to export at maximum rate without the house taking any of the battery/inverter's maximum discharge rate).PPI success. Banding success. Double Dip PCN cancelled! South facing solar (Midlands) and battery. Savings Session supporter (is it worth it now!?)1 -

Edited: and if you can understand it please translate 🙀It's a lengthy discussion of the consultation, which followed publication of the proposed changes to the scheme released and discussed here a few weeks ago. They are rubber-stamping these proposals, despite several concerns being raised about the changes. The TL;DR of the proposals if I remember correctly was that they didn't foresee any great need this winter, events would be very limited, there would be no advanced notice, and overall the scheme looked a lot less lucrative than previous years. Octopus seems to have done the maths and come up with their 90% reduction, although I don't know what they have based that on.1
