Been paid and allocated the categories. Had unexpected £60 back from parent, they borrow money a lot and to be honest I sometimes lose track. I had to get a couple of bits so it’s paid for that, only went to the office once so all in all had £120 left of week 4. I have paid £20 to Amex which covered the interest so it’s still at £800 (but I will have holiday accommodation coming out and then another holiday commitment so will eventually rise by another £1.2k ish) and put £100 to savings.

After re jig I have left £600 in personal account as I will have to be in 4 days a week due to the intern and also going on holiday in week 3. Managed to put another £50 in savings so that’s now £500 total.

    Personal account - £600

    Week 1 - £100
    Week 2 - £100
    Week 3 - £100
    Week 4 - £100
    extras - £200

    Food shop - £400
    Week 4 - £101 coming out today

    Week 1 - £100
    Week 2 - £100
    Week 3 - £100
    Week 4 - £100

Hey guys an update from me. My mental health has been taking a battering lately but on the money front all is well when i take it one step at a time. So one week at a time. When i start thinking about the mountains of debts my
Mind is spiralling so I have taken off all the signatures.

The debt is still there of course but i want to make this diary a more positive experience and not a constant reminder of my failures….

So I have a new approach - i have re named this “budget with me one week at a time” and i will purely focus on £100 a week food shop and £100 a week spending money. Any weekly money left over will be split 50:50 on interest bearing debt and savings.

I find coming here and recording my weekly spends keeps me on a straight and narrow so will carry on. I’m here for the long haul……

    Personal spend - £300

Week 1 - £82.50- during week 1 I spent £44.80 on travel to the office and £27.70 on lunches and £10 on parking as one day we had to take two cars. The main car parking comes out of the joint account. Total £82.50 which means £17.50 is split between debt/savings :)

    Week 2 - £100
    Week 3 - £100
    Week 4 - £100

    Food shop - £293.89

Week 1 - £106.11 food shop came to £106.11, i am finding it more and more difficult to stick to a £100. We get it delivered for time reasons but i will hear myself up to switch to Aldi.

    Week 2 - £100
    Week 3 - £100
    Week 4 - £100

    Looking forward to week 2!

    Hi DFB35,

I really like your weekly budget plan - simple, clear and easy to focus on so I'm going to try to imitate you.

I struggle with budgetting.  I can go along for a while filling up various saving pots but I always end up blowing it all on treats for kids, grandkids, or just shiny things!

    Well done and keep going.

Have you been put on HRT after the hysterectomy? I lasted 6 weeks before I was at the doctors.  It’s really common to be down after the op for ages.

Hi @Madusa and @dawnybabes thank you for popping in.

Madusa I  am the same with savings pots at the moment will build them up and then end up taking money out. I hope that eventually I will
get the hang of it. I did cash stuffing for a bit which I really enjoyed maybe will pick that up again. I don’t know if you tried it.

Dawnybabes they left my ovaries but said due to the shock of the operation I might go into natural menopause within 5 years. I’m 40 so ideally don’t want to go on HRT yet as heard you shouldn’t be on it for very long time? I have breast cancer in the family.  But I do need to check myself out for hormone levels and some other stuff at the doctors I’ve not got round to it yet…. Also need to book dentist. Just keep putting it all off :)

    Week 2 totals

    Week 2 - £69.65 - lunches came to £26.85 and travel £42.80.
I am doing well on the work spends and mostly would just go to work and back home. But this week I have met a friend I’ve not seen in awhile and also my daughter came down and we went out for a family meal and cinema. This was all unallocated spending and came to £159.35.
Then I have also bought 3 tops from Primark for work -£26.

And the biggest spending was presents for my 2 nephews. I’m going on holiday end of next week to see them, which I only do once a year and wanted to get them st Christopher’s necklaces.

This holiday coming up is unbudgeted and stressing me out. I have a couple more items I can sell to help with the costs but I like the items.  I don’t know if I will go next year, I need a year of low spending to catch up on my finances.

    Week 3 - £100
    Week 4 - £100

    Food shop - £198.41

Week 2 - £100.11 - didn’t manage to get to Aldi, I’ve been so busy at work so did the delivery again. But managed to stick to £100

    Week 3 - £100
    Week 4 - £100

It used to be you couldn’t stay on HRT indefinitely but now it’s changed and you can stay on it,  I’m now at year 8 and would be through the menopause by now if I’d not had the hysterectomy.  I also take soya isoflavines which help.
