  • Vista.....!

find cmd.exe, and right click and pin it to the start menu, then right click the pinned icon, and run as administrator, when doing all these ipconfigs. you need to be an admin.

I am so mad:mad:. Just switched a couple of the cables round. This probably sounds daft but I have 2 blue ones and a red one - all have been purchased at different times. I had the two blue ones connected to the router and the red one from the powerplug to the laptop. Just changed them around so that the red one connects the router to the PC and hey presto it all works. Does this mean that the red one might be a crossover cable or something? I bought a different colour for identification purposes.

Thank you albertross for all your help. Have a Happy Christmas.
(Do I feel a right idiot now or what?!)

  • it could be crossover, you can tell by looking at the wires in the end and comparing with the blue ones, glad it's sorted.
