  • so you are able to do a

    ipconfig

    but not

    ipconfig /all

    ?

find cmd.exe, and right click and pin it to the start menu, then right click the pinned icon, and run as administrator, then run the ipconfig /all >c:\1.txt

unless you have 4 foot brick walls, wireless should work

I've run the ipconfig thingy. Helpfully the laptop has asked for a driver fror my memory stick. Is there anything specific you need to know or should I start typing?

    It does say media disconnected.
Also IP Routing is disabled as is WINS Proxy.
    I have plenty of willpower - it's won't power I need.
  • all of it.

Surprised vista needs a driver for usb stick

if the laptop works with direct router connection, you could hook it up temporarily to copy and paste, but it important the ipconfig /all was done whilst using the homeplugs

  • this was done (the ipconfig) whilst connected to the powerline?

one thing you could try to test the powerline equipment, is to plug the working pc into it

    Do you mean modem-router-powerline plug-PC?
Might have to wait until later as I haven't got a cable long enough to reach from the next available plug, so it would mean a fairly major shuffle.
I've PM'd you. I hope you'll be around later too.

  • what is confusing is that earlier you said an ipconfig brought up a 192 address, and now the ipconfig /all doesn't mention it.

    modem-router-powerline plug-powerline plug -PC

I assume you are using a cable modem?

yes, just use the pc instead of the laptop to test the powerline equipment. if it works on the pc, but not laptop, then the hardware is ok

    I hadn't noticed that.

I've just tried ipconfig again and it says media disconnected. It seems a bit intermittent. I wonder if there's a dodgy connection somewhere.
