Problems with Powerplugs

Had wired system up and running with Powerplugs - it lasted all of 24 hrs. Lights on Belkin router have gone orange - it has been suggested that this is because it has a 10Mbps connection rather than 100. PC still connects to internet through router as does laptop, but laptop won't connect through powerplug. I've switched cables around and rebooted various bits of system plus whole system, but it still won't work. This is more frustrating than it never having worked at all:mad:.
Any ideas?
I have plenty of willpower - it's won't power I need.

I've got 192.168.2.2 and the gateway at 192.168.2.1.

What do you mean ping the router? I'm a complete technical numpty!

Come up with sent and received 4 packets. No data lost.
    This sounds good?

The two others come up with the same result.

  • You only need to do this on the laptop that doesn't work

    for all three pings addresses?

    ping www.google.com
    ping 64.233.183.147
    ping 192.168.2.1

if so, on the laptop that doesn't work, what settings have you got in

ie, tools, internet options, connections, (and advanced)

  • is it a wireless router, and wireless laptop btw?

    In internet options I've got
Broadband connection and never dial a connection.
In advanced I have Vista's default settings.

Its a wired router and it was working wired through a pair of Solwise Powerplugs.

The laptop pings those three sites. The one it wont ping is the first one listed in ipconfig which it says is 192.168.2.3

  • ok , so the working pings you did earlier were on a working pc? what about the ipconfig, was that one the non-working laptop, or the working pc?

all these tests need to be done on the non-working laptop, so if the answers you gave earlier related to a different pc, could you do them on the laptop, and report back, ipconfig etc

is it set to bb connection, or never dial a connection

Yes I did the original ones on the working PC:doh:.

  • ok, the laptop that wont work through powerplug, if that laptop when connected to powerplug can ping https://www.google.com, then it is connected and working on the internet, so the problem is likely to be IE connections, or possibly firewall related, so 1st check the IE settings I mentioned, it should be set to never dial a connection
