Ahh the good old deposit & hopefully get access to decent products in the future trick, worth a go for £1.Bridlington1 said:I've just noticed Bath BS have opened up their Instant ISA and Instant Access account up to all UK residents, both of which can be opened with £1. Most of Bath BS's products are restricted to people who live, work or study in Bath or are existing Bath BS members with 12 months continuous membership so it could be worth seizing on the opportunity to ``get a foot in the door" so to speak.
Also with the new ISA rules coming into effect next week there are a couple of building societies which have cash ISAs that can be opened by all with £1 whilst their non-ISA accounts have higher minimum balances, these include Mansfield BS and Harpenden BS. There may be others this applies to but I can't think of them off the top of my head.
Got £1 in Skipton & £100 in Cambridge for same reason.
Thanks.1 -
Do you think Bath BS is in trouble?ircE said:pecunianonolet said:
Have there been any competitive products in the past by Bath BS as the current rates are not very competitive and I am not sure if I want to open yet another account with just £1 in it I may never use (as so many others) if there is no evidence that there were opportunities in the past for this scenario.Bridlington1 said:I've just noticed Bath BS have opened up their Instant ISA and Instant Access account up to all UK residents, both of which can be opened with £1. Thanks @Bridlington1.
Do you think other Building Societies will open up their products?0 -
I doubt this means Bath are in trouble. They have previously offered their 16-25 RS to all and their LISA has occasionally been open to all in the past. ESBS, SRBS and Newbury often flick between having accounts open to all and postcode restricted as do Mansfield with some of their accounts.jameseonline said:

I suspect it's more likely to be a sign that Bath want some new customers outside of Bath and/or want some more people to deposit savings with them without necessarily having to increase their other savings rates rather than them being in any sort of trouble.2 -
Just tried getting a Bath Online/Instant Access account via my phone, been told something went wrong & the next page looked messed up

I want the Penrith 6% Regular 😭Bridlington1 said:
I was quite fortunate with Cambridge in that I was able to open their First Account (under 21s only, now reverted into a maturity account) with £1 whilst I still could. I've also got accounts with £1 with Beverley, ESBS, HEBS, Market Harborough, Newbury and Scottish BS for the same reason and have already benefitted from ``Loyalty/existing member accounts" with Bath, Coventry, Darlington, Leek, Mansfield, Monmouthshire, Penrith, Saffron, Skipton, YBS so far.jameseonline said:

Just tried applying via their app, now getting a sort code error for my Virgin Money account 😒😌
That's at least the 2nd time a Building Society doesn't like my Virgin Money account, hmm🤔0 -
