Spent most of day doing family history with a friend. Opened up a whole new line for her (very important to get the original records for every child in the family!). Should be able to get five or more generations in Scotland in the next couple of weeks. She then took my roommate DI and I out for lunch. We usually go to the Anaheim FamilySearch Center Thursday night, but we had our Covid shot and our RSV Shot yesterday, and Di had a terrible headache. So we stayed home tonight. So a NSD today. Tomorrow will be another story as the checks come in - and go right back out again to pay pills and we do our big grocery shop for the month. Made up my shopping order and am prepared. Also I got my referrals to the cardiologist and gastroenterologist today, so will be calling to make appointments tomorrow. We also plan on fitting a couple hours in the Library in there to sort books. If I work it right tomorrow, may not have to spend money for the next week.
Thankful for a doctor who got me the referrals very quickly, for knowing I have money coming in that will cover most of the bills (roommates pay rent at other times, so hopefully all bills will be covered). The weather is still hot here. It is a good thing as my best friend in Colorado had a temperature of -8C a couple of days ago. A long time ago, a friend from Tonga had given me a blanket that is way too warm for here. I sent it to my friend several years ago and she has been using all winter ever since(it is actually a double blanket). I am glad I was able to do that. I also made her several scarves which she says she even uses in the house. So I am thankful for the weather.13 -
Spent most of yesterday relaxing as planned. Did go out for a rainy walk at lunchtime as I think I'd got cabin fever from being on a plane for 24 hours. Definitely had the big coat out! Made a bit of a change from 30+ and blazing sunshine but I quite like walking in the rain lol.
Got 2 loads of washing done, cleaned the aquarium and hoovered.
Succumbed to the jetlag mid-afternoon and fell asleep for a bit, was in bed just after 9pm but woke this morning at 3!
Couldn't eat much yesterday but feel much better today, which I'm glad about as I got lots of lovely fruit and veg in yesterday's shopping delivery.
Just sitting with a cuppa and probably going to do some reading/watch TV until the sun comes up as it's far too early to be making noise doing chores!12 -
The rain has stopped and it's been a beautiful. autumnal day. The weather is so unpredictable
- Health and Wellbeing - Himself is making baked potatoes. I'm filling mine with smoked haddock. Don't know what he's having. Thai curry in slow cooker for tomorrow. Chicken was half price and I had everything else in either the freezer of the cupboard. Walked to the hairdresser and had my hair cut and coloured. Took your advice. A short bob. Much shorter than usual but it does look nice. I think I'll be able to mange it better but if not I'll start going every week. I'm going to have to go a bit more regularly in any case as it is so dry.
- Household - Plodding but getting there. Every little bit helps
- Garden - Popped into Aldi and bought a couple of small pre-planted pansy pots. Cleaned the window sill and put them on it with some outdoor candles that were lurking under the sink. Minimum spend and effort but a very noticeable difference for the better.
- Declutter - Powering along with this one. Not even counting how many. Apart from my stealth decluttering I found a colouring book which I shall give to my little friend together with bags of Haribro sweets left over from Halloween,
- Socialise - Does going to the hairdresser and actually speaking to another human being count?
My new haircut?
Hope all you poorly Turtles feel better very, very soon. Food poisoning? What a really terrible thing. xxxHave adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.13 -
I've looked at my objectives for the months, and here are my thoughts:
- Spending - I am taking part in the NSD November challenge, aiming to reach 15 days. I have also reloaded my grocery reloadable card, and aim to remember to use it every time I need to do some grocery shopping. I am currently more than half way through the Xmas gift buying, but I have every single bit in mind now, so I should be able not to exceed the allocated budget, So for November: 15 NSD's, use reloadable grocery card, do not exceed gifting and festivities budget.
- Plan - My month is already completely planned. I work Mon-Fri anyway, and each single weekend has some different stuff happening, most of it I'm looking forward to. I tried to plan at least a weekend to relax and reset, so I'll try to stick to that. Objective: keep 1 weekend free for myself
- Remove 60 items from my house - this is an interesting challenge which I've never tried before but I feel it comes at the right time. My flat is very small and I am budgeting to do some renovations, which will allow to create some extra space and use the existing space in a more efficient way, but in the meantime we have to make do. I've been listing all clothes that will never fit me again, and have sold quite a few, but I still have a whole box full. I've decided, if by the end of the month I haven't sold them. I will bring to the charity shop the clothes that have been listed the longest time ago, so I can reclaim back some space. I also want to try to do the 60 items challenge, so I will be counting other things that I will declutter in a couple of pockets of chaos that I hope to declutter this month. Objective: reduce listed things + 60 objects in 30 days
- Kindness working on that, I'd like to go do my volunteering a little bit more this month, but I have to be realistic. Hoping to go tomorrow and then another time, so at least twice. Objective: 2 volunteering days
- Exercise and Wellbeing - I want to try again what I tried last month, but try to make it more achievable. Exercise at least twice a week, for a total of 10 times in the month.

Slightly shocked to realise it was Friday - where did my week go? I've been drowsy since the covid jab but really want to get more structure into my days.
Two things I forgot to mention 1 - Earlier in the week mum's lodger picked up the pack of 'packing boxes' I bought for DS3. 2 DS3 put two light bulbs up in the kitchen as he remembered me asking him to do it. It's only taken him 2 years. However it's light enough to see in there ( there are only 2 light bulbs left as the lighting needs to be changed when the kitchen gets done - no more perching on the top of the tall ladders for me) and it took a lot less time and effort than I would have spent taping more fairy lights to the walls.
Today I made a blood test appointment for Monday and on Wednesday I will be trying on my old glasses with their new lenses and having them adjusted. I've booked a bulky waste collection of 5 items (free) for the 23rd. I've written down the bin schedule for the month and put in a reminder to book my return bio-mech appointment (insoles) from the 14th.
Did one load of washing, then gave it an extra 9 minute spin. Rubbish went out to the bins and I brought back the 2 that were collected this week. Some items from the line came in and have been put on the radiator to dry (it's not on but they've been drowned at least 3 times since they went out). Radiator was previously obscured by boxes of LPs. Toilet rolls came upstairs, some other thing went down (but forgotten what they were)
Ate toast, 4 carrots, 2 soya yoghurts, a ready meal and another pile of toast and the last cup'o'soup in the box (very sniffley and couldn't cope with anything more complicated). A pile of small pieces of paper have been whittled down with snippets transferred to address book (some passwords) and the to do lists (one is moving specific) and the paper bag is slowly filling.
My bunny is complete except for the bit that needs more thread, sewn as I watched bits of my film and current series (it kept losing the internet every few minutes. Lodger has viewed a one bed bungalow today, rent is slightly higher than what he's paying now but only half of the flat he saw last week (he's been turned down as they say they need an income of £21,000 pa for their desired tenant.
Came upstairs about 6 pm and spent about 2 hours on the phone with my cousin who kept apologising for moaning - everything's just getting a bit on top of her atm, all the work that needs doing on her mum's house (asbestos dealt with but currently no ceilings, electrician starting next week, 2 narcissists at work making everyone's life a misery and she's finding the work physically demanding as she ages).
Grateful for being able to lend an ear, getting things booked in and sorted, random food, books, films and embroidery12 -
Thanks @Thrifty_Taylor I guess I Just need to get stitching!
Tonight I am grateful for a lovely family dinner with both boys and looking forwards to spending the day together tomorrow.

Today I am grateful for getting out and about a couple of times for brisk walks, for the staff at dc's school, for the friendly neighbourhood cats, for an ex pupil (who left in y7, a year group I rarely taught, and is now in y13) recognising me this evening at a do at dc's school and coming up to say hello, for coffee.
