As @KajiKita said, getting married has basic costs and don't be distracted from your you aim of being debt free and safe and comfortable!
This official guide has the essential info including legal costs under 'plan your ceremony' section. Obviously you'll need to pay for venue and registrar then any extras but that depends on your preferences

Oh wow! I've been rubbish at coming on here and I've come back to an absolute influx of kind messages! Thank you all so much!!!
Absolutely agree re wedding costs and making it what you want and not necessarily sticking to traditions! For example, we were discussing it last night and decided we don't want a wedding cake as nowadays, who is actually interested in watching people cut it?! Although we are supposedly planning to wait until the houses are sold, we do have a viewing for a wedding venue booked on Saturday!
Ok, so what else have I been up to...
Well we booked a couple of nights in Poland in September! The date falls between mine and bf's birthdays so we're calling it our birthday present and won't buy presents for each other - although I will definitely get bf something small to open!
Didn't have any viewings on the house last week (and no word from any of the previous viewings) but have one booked for Wednesday.
The joint account seems to be working well for us at the moment. We did have to top it up last week but hoping it should see us through to the end of the month now! I am struggling however with the "oversight" (not sure that's the right word!) of it though as I'm not sure how to account for the spends in my spreadsheet! Normally I record my half of everything but it doesn't seem as easy this way - not helped by the fact bf keeps using his own card to pay and then transfers himself the money! Whilst I trust him completely with what he is doing, I can't "see" what it relates to!
As I'm not being very good at updating daily, I'm going to stick a weekly list below to at least try and keep some sort of accountability...- Sort out car tax
- Complete pre-drivers awareness course materials (naughty me!)
- Update budget spreadsheet
- Make a start of August budget
- Book activities for festival at the end of August
- Keep on top of housework
Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89
Current debt - £5,935.00
Total paid off - £9,665.89 (61% paid off)0 -
Maybe you need to have a weekly "settling-up" until BF begins to use the joint account card? He needs to understand that it's not that you don't trust him, more that you both need to see where your money goes each month.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

We have a budget for the joint account, so I know all the home related transactions that are going to come out (council tax, mortgage, energy, internet, etc etc.). I pay in 60% of the needed value for the month and Mr KK 40% (I earn more than him).I have money hub so I get a steady stream of notifications as they go out in the month and if anything looks off I can check it in the account itself. I record all of these transactions in my spreadsheet that is my joint budget about once a week so I can see if any have increased / decreased (not often! 😉). I run the budget so there is a surplus of c. £10 a month - if that surplus starts to be eroded I adjust my contribution and ask Mr KK to do the same. For complex KK Team reasons that I won’t bore you with 😉 we have a separate groceries account that we run on similar lines. Takeaways come out of our own cash though. We then have all remaining monies separate though we both contribute to projects around the house pretty much 50/50. In some ways I still contribute more but that’s partly because Mr KK is the one doing all the work!
KKAs at 15.07.25:
- When bought house £315,995 mortgage debt and end date at start = October 2039 - now £233,521
- OPs to mortgage = £11,816 Interest saved £5,28 to date
Fixed rate 3.85% ends January 2030
