Thanks for the suggestions - however, by the time we realised I would say that I already didn't trust anything! For example I opened the brand new milk and it was lumpy! So unfortunately it looks like we need to start afresh! It's also annoying that (although it's not imminent) the fact that we will likely be moving and don't know what sort of fridge will fit any new kitchen best! Oh well - at least I had the money for my half covered under my house/DIY pot!Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89
Current debt - £6,450.00
Total paid off - £9,150.89 (58% paid off)2 -
So... how much do weddings cost?!
I was surprised on Saturday morning with "bf" proposing!!! So I think I then spent most of Saturday in a bit of a daze!!! The plan will be to get married after bis dad's house has sold and use the money from his inheritance, so no immediate planning or budgeting/ saving required to cover that. It's very exciting but hasn't sunk in yet!
But back to the present and money related things! Friday evening we went out for line dancing - spent a bit on the class, plus drinks and some food out (justified by the fact our new fridge had arrived but we hadn't been shopping!)
Then Saturday morning we went for breakfast where we had our first date - you may think I would have read that as a sign of something happening, but it's something we've been talking about for ages! It didn't go exactly how bf (I suppose I should start saying "OH" now!) had planned and he ended up proposing by the car - was perfectly imperfect I would say! Then popped to see my parents, then took his mum for a drink (all parents very excited but were aware it was happening!) before doing the adult thing of doing the food shop! We then cooked a nice dinner at home and chilled out with a beer!
Yesterday OH was playing golf with his friends so I had the day to myself. Started off going to a "creative brunch" organised by my knitting friend - although I nearly gave up as it was at a pub by the beach and parking was completely mental! Pleased I didn't as eventually found somewhere to park! Once we were done there, I wondered down to the beach for a little sunbathe and a swim. Finally managed to speak to one of best friends who I hadn't yet told the news and she invited me over for a catch up - I waited until I saw her to show off my new bling! So spent the afternoon chatting on her balcony in the sunshine before coming home about 5pm and bf cooked us dinner.
So a bit of a spendy weekend and the joint account will need topping up but a blooming marvellous weekend overall!
We have briefly discussed whether or not we want to have an engagement party (not sure these are really a thing) but I am feeling inclined to say that we have a bbq at ours on the August bank holiday and use the money for the few days holiday away that we'd talked about in September. Topic for conversation later!Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89

Awww ... what lovely news ...
You two make such a solid team, I'm really pleased for you
And in answer to your question - weddings costs as much or as little as you want. Don't be rail-roaded by anybody else's expectations, but do have an event that has meaning for the two of you
<wanders off with happy smile at this news ...>
