We're getting rewarded at >10x the cost of the energy shifted, so I'm still pretty enthusiastic about that. I can understand those who use little at peak times not wishing to go to extremes to make a marginal saving, but for those of us who ordinarily contribute to the problem peaks the reward is still quite generous.

Am enjoying the sessions - and this months leccy use will be more than covered by the savings sessions earnings. I hope they do more of them in the new year if not before

    Solar Battery 6.5 kWh

Mortgage freedom January 2024 - paid off 7 years early by making overpayments where we could.

  • Anybody in West Midlands been offered "Free Electricity" yet? (Scheme seems to be new to this area).  I'm ready and waiting - Immersion Heater and Night Storage Heaters are on Economy 7, but it looks like I can switch them all on for a boost during any "Free Electricity" periods.  [Immersion Heater has over-ride switch on its own timer; For switching Night Storage Heaters on and off, Kaifa MA120B smart meter has "ALCS Test" (Auxiliary Load Control Switch) in the on-screen configuration menu].

Is that the Powerup scheme? It's been running in the eastern region for a while.

Noticibly less enthusiasm about this year's scheme than last year on here at least.  Will be interesting to see how the figures compare.  I'm probably on track for a tenner absolute maximum this time if I opt in to all the sessions as compared to £40 for around half last time.

There's a Savings Sessions thread which is being widely used, it's probably taken over from this thread.

  • In the Eastern Region / South-East, it was the "Power-Up" Scheme.  I think that it was for customers living near Wind-Farms or Solar Farms with surplus capacity.  Now they've introduced the "Octoplus Rewards Programme" = "Savings Sessions" + "Free Electricity Sessions". (Octopus email dated 10/12/23).  As you may know, "Savings Sessions" = 'We'll pay you to turn it off, or else the dirty power stations will have to run harder', while "Free Electricity Sessions" = 'You may as well have it free, because we have to pay the green producers whether we use it or not'.  I think that my nearest big wind or solar farm is 30 miles away; Any idea whether that's too far away for me to be offered their surplus generation?  Other corrections/comments welcome!

Or you could just go on the Agile tariff and get paid to use electricity, from time to time, and pay significantly less than the SVT the rest of the time, as long as you avoid the peak period.
  • Wow, I've received 200 bonus points but I don't know why; it says 'Points awarded for an a…' but I can't find the rest of that sentence anywhere.  On the website statement of Octopoints it just says bonus points.

[The only potential savings session thing it could be is if they topped up the last one to 200 points, but the info didn't say anything about that.  It's certainly not a bonus for being in the top any % or opting in for all of them because twice we've saved nothing and we missed one session altogether.]

A couple of them had bonus points for opting in. I think there was some discussion about some of the bonus points only being mentioned on Twitter/WhatsApp.

The rest of the sentence says 'for an ad hoc reason'.
