I just realised that the short notice notifications arrive on Whatsapp and not on the Ocotpus app.  That will explain why I have missed a couple as I don't use Whatsapp.
They are pushing them out on the app too, but the fastest way is always to pull from a feed, not wait for a push.

Can you explain how to do that?
Either join the WhatsApp group or follow the SavingsSessions account on twitter and turn on notifications.
Thanks. I don't use either so I'll just keep checking the Octopus app.
Things that are differerent: draw & drawer, brought & bought, loose & lose, dose & does, payed & paid

How?  I'm getting those sorts of figures exporting from a battery! You must be a very heavy user at that time of day normally?

Saving Session tonight 5pm to 6pm.
  • Noticibly less enthusiasm about this year's scheme than last year on here at least.  Will be interesting to see how the figures compare.  I'm probably on track for a tenner absolute maximum this time if I opt in to all the sessions as compared to £40 for around half last time.

You can game the system to an extent, move usage into the reference window (generally 16:00-19:00) on days when there is not a Saving Session, as an example I now pretty much only run my dishwasher and washing machine on a weekday in that window (both set on their built in timers), it is also when I generally cook etc.

I did this last week. I was working shorter shifts, so got home at 16:30 and plugged my EV in to charge on two evenings. Intellegent Octopus decided to start charging the car straight away, so it was charging through the 5pm - 6pm slot. While the car was charging, I did some washing (because the household electricity is also charged at the cheap rate while the car's charging). My general usage was also higher than usual due to being at home - I had the TV on, boiled the kettle etc.

The impact of this is that for this week's sessions I have had a much higher baseline usage - and my rewards have gone from about 30p previously, to about £5 per session this week.

I don't consider myself to be gaming the system though. I used the Intellegent Octopus tariff exactly as it's designed - plugged in and asked it to charge my car to 80% by 7am the next day. It was Octopus, not me, that decided to deliver the charge during the peak hours. I've fallen lucky that we've had three sessions in quick sucession following my week of early finishes!

Understandable that the excitement died down after last year where some were getting over £40 out of single sessions. I’m also curious about seeing what the “unadjusted” results end up looking like compared to last year with the rules having been tightened, but at least the figures should represent more of a genuine grid demand reduction than the inflated ones from before.
