Pulling my frugal pants on.

Yep it was an expensive day redofromstart .
Had a lovely couple of days with the eldest not calculated the cost yet. We had cocktails the first night, drinking out has become super expensive, glad it’s not something I do every week ( which I did when I was a lot younger). It was nice though, although climbing the 199 steps back up to where we stayed required numerous pauses 🤨 to look at the view🤣.We decided not to use the car the following day, so hopped onto a bus to visit a village I’ve always wanted to go. As it has a long history of painters, sculptors etc, I was hoping for lots of craft shops. To be honest was glad we’ve always holidayed further down the coast by the time we left. Not somewhere I will be returning to or would recommend a visit although the loos were free. In fact the best part was the actual bus journey there and back as the views were stunning.
We did manage to get the eldest their graduation gift when we were walking back to our room. My dad is going halves with us plus got a 20% discount. Only cost half what we had originally allocated, so the rest can stay in the bank.We did a combination of self catering and going out for meals. One meal from a bird restaurant was very bland and expensive. Won’t eat there again as it’s the 2nd disappointing meal I’ve had there. The other was from a little cafe that did gluten free bagels. Really nice but I’ve made better, I would go again and try something else. It nice having an adult child as they paid for half of everything, well except accommodation and self catered food oh and petrol.
We’ve decided that in future we’d only visit that town as a day trip as we’ve done it to death now.
Time to get miss giddychops out as I’ve a busy day ahead.

It's great to hear youngest has another year of UC. And the savings you've already identified are a hearty start (though it's probably as well you aren't cultivating a cocktail habit).
Hope your busy day is going well.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Thanks cherryfudge.
The big move has been done. The eldest stuff has all gone…… well most of it. We’ve been left with stuff to store in the loft! She’s had various bit of furniture from different rooms and most rooms are now in chaos. TV is gone, which neither of my parents can get their heads around, offering spare tvs. Spent a lovely evening doing puzzles, listening to the radio and drinking wine. OH on the hand was upstairs rearranging furniture (didn’t want my help), cursing at the wardrobe that will need to be taken apart due to its size before it can be moved. It will take several weeks to sort out as things are moved around, walls painted and stuff decluttered or found a new home( either in the house or charity shop or tip).
frugal wins
1. Used natures tumble dryer
2. harvested courgettes, tomatoes and blackberries from the plot.
3. Reduced bread (2 loaves)from local shop 70p each.
4. Still recycling water from OH bath last night to flush the loo.
Looking forward to a cooked breakfast tomorrow before we go to the allotment.

Phew it’s hot out there. Decided on doing jobs at home for most of the day and will visit the plot later once it’s cooled down. It was nice to yoga in the garden and put on the fountain. The top end is now clear of pots as the youngest has asked for the pool for tomorrow’s heat. Think this will be its last year as it has numerous holes that have been patched with gaffer tape. We’ll use the water to give the garden pots a good water , so it won’t be wasted. Managed to get numerous jobs ticked off the list, still emptying the eldest room ready for painting the ceiling next week. Ended up taking the wardrobe to pieces as it’s too big to get through the door, much to OH disgust. Found plenty of books in their room that apparently zebdefit wouldn’t take so I might read them before trying again and if not I’ll take them to the book swap place.Meal plan created using produce that will come off the plot next week.
right best get back to decluttering and tidying.

All jobs on the list except water peppers done. OH did not have to sledgehammer the book case. It did take him nearly an hour of trying to fit it through the door to realise why it wouldn’t go and once this was sorted it slid through🤣. He felt a right plod when he cottoned on to why. Will need to touch up some paint. Managed to sit in the shade for an hour this afternoon, very relaxing.
Frugalness for today
1. free exercise over 11,000 steps
2. Wm, dw and car put to come on when cheap electric available
3. made 3 new candles from odds and sods, used old Pringle canisters.
4. Harvested 🍇, apples 🍎 , blackberries, tomatoes 🍅 and potatoes 🥔
5. bookcase survived moving
6. 2 shampoo bottles, both will enough liquid in to wash their hair a couple of times, rescued from recycling (the youngest).
Long list already written for tomorrow, top is sugar soaping the ceiling in the eldest room and maybe a coat of paint.

KK, I also use juice cartons to make candles as well. Really pleased with the yellow and orange ones, not so keen on the mucky red. Hopefully they will smell of vanilla as I had I few scrap ends of some tea lights.
So the sun didn’t materialise, stayed firmly hidden behind the clouds. Has dried my washing though. The youngest hayfever is bad so didn’t want the pool out.
Phone call from OT who is coming out tomorrow to assess the youngest for a ramp. Wasn’t expecting a phone call so soon. However, it’s how quick it gets done rather than the assessment that bothers me.Shopping was £112. 36, will need to buy overproof rum tomorrow and it’s gone up £3 a bottle😱.Frugalness for today
