  • Gearing myself to go to the plot, not particularly looking forward to it in a skirt. Need to hunt for the big pin to stop it floating round my belly button in the wind🤣.

It's windy here again too :joy: I have jeans on because of that lol! Hope the weather stays dry at least for you!

Maybe that’s why kilt pins exist …? 🤔 To stop ‘flap up’? 😉😂

  • I'm glad it amused you debtfreewannabe321 and KK, it made me smile too and it worked no flashing.
Yesterday at the plot I managed to get a row of peas in and covered them with glass to keep the rain off. Another raised bed of carrots sown again under glass for now. Fil sowed some onions, leeks and beetroot in pots and they went in the greenhouse. Spent a lovely couple of hours just pottering about up there. Completely different from today when we went up, lovely to start with then heavy rain, called it quits when it started to hail. Managed to pot on the garden centre plants and empty the cold frame.

    DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff.    Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

  • Thanks ladywithaplan.
Arrived safe and sound at our holiday cottage after driving in horrendous weather. It's the youngest birthday weekend as they wanted to have a break rather than a present and the whole family gets to benefit. We've not stayed here before but the youngest favourite town and beach are just up the road.
    Frugalness for yesterday
    1. Used recycled padded envelope to send back insoles.
    2. Tea was homemade beef stew (DH), and leek and potato soup (ingredients from the plot) for the rest of us.
    3. Holiday cottage is through a friend of a friend and price in comparison to others was about £100 cheaper. Plus it 3 nights instead of 2 and still worked out cheaper.
    4. Free exercise via walking with miss giddychops.
    5. Mended cardigan.

    Not so frugal.
    1. Decided I'm not doing alot of cooking this weekend as I'm exhausted after the last couple of months, so I bought snacky and pre-made food and will pay for fish and chips. £98 roughly (sm shop), although I think I have saved enough money in the fun pot to cover fish and chips.
    2. Its still cost us £300 to come away, but for the last 2 years on the youngest birthday🎂 somebody had covid and it had to be cancelled.
Suppose I best get up and yoga🧘.

I think it’s a good shout to not aim to do lots of cooking this weekend, both because you also need a break but also because cooking in a strange kitchen is always harder.

    Enjoy the break 😊🌞🎉

Had a fantastic weekend thanks everyone. The youngest really enjoyed themselves especially on the beach. They had built up enough confidence to use their electric off roader on the beach. Unfortunately it wore them out, so spent the last morning in bed. Would definitely use that cottage again as the local pub did several gluten free veggie meals.
Since then we  received some bad financial news. OH second job tutoring won't continue after his last course. Apparently the council are changing what they offer. So unless it's comes with a qualification or is adapted to meet the needs of the those disadvantaged in society they won't run. It's a shame really as he really enjoyed running them and the money generally paid for Christmas and holidays. He's going to reassess whether it will be worth spending time altering how he will teach them which he could do as he worked with adults with learning disabilities for nearly 20 years or whether to stop. We don't have the money or the land to run the courses ourselves, so that is not an option.
Other money news, I transferred the money we have set aside for a new wheelchair into an ISA and opened an ISA in OH name to try and save up for next year's MOP. Sent the money I got for some books into OH isa.
We are packing to go to the lakes as we had decided at Christmas not to do presents but would go away. YHA and horseriding for the youngest was planned but the youngest is ill. So OH and I are going on our own. I will also find out if I can do 4 hrs of travelling in a car with my health condition. We are planning on travelling to visit a friend at the far north in Scotland at the end of the month which will take 2 days. So this short trip will help me decide if the Scotland trip is doable.
    Right yoga next.
    Love🐞
