  • Well it certainly snowed here, had a good couple of inches. DH arrived home safe and sound although his 20 minute journey took him 80 minutes.

    Grateful for
    1. DH got home safely from work.
    2. My neice and nephew got home safely, their school shut early and it's an hours bus journey.
    3. My home is warm and water tight.

  • Needed an emergency gp appointment as the youngest has an infected nail bed. Apparently it's been bothering them all week but decided that midnight last night it was time to tell me🙄. They hoped it would go away. Yet again went through you need to wash your hands with soap blah blah blah. Youngest always learns the hard way. They then wanted me to stay with them all day, so cake with DH and in laws was cancelled. Our day together hasn't quite worked out as planned.

I'm sure there is a saying about the best laid plans of mice and men ...
  • Even though the plan was scuppered badmemory, I still got cake🍰.
    Frugalness
    1. No money spent
    2. MIL bought the youngest and me cake as I missed out. Not an intentional saving.
    3. There is a portion leftover from tea from another night.
    4. Another tube of toothpaste cut up and scraped out. This one just did 8 additional brushes.
    That's all folks.

  • Had a fantastic morning. Our local transition town put on a free bike🚲maintenance course. I now know how to change and patch a tyre. Replace brakes and chains, whoop whoop🎉. We were all given a puncture repair kit.

Spent most of the day in a and e as mum had fainted and broke her ankle. She was told she would have to wait 11 hours for an ambulance, she was on the floor, no access to a toilet 😠. After several phone calls, family rallied round, got her onto the settee and then into a car, up to the hospital . X ray, cat scan, temp pot and back to my house before those 11 hours were up. She's sofa surfing ( I have a very long, comfy sofa) tonight and tomorrow I will source a single bed and mattress from the loft etc. Just need to wait for a appointment for her op. Good job I have a downstairs toilet and bars in there. The poor lady who came in after mum had been on her bathroom floor for 6 hours.

    Grateful for
    1. Mum only broke her ankle, could of been so much worse.
    2. Family
    3. A downstairs toilet.

So sorry to hear about your Mum's fall, but your sofa is a great place for her for now. I hope her op comes through soon.

  • Mum's ankle is now plated and screwed together. Spoke to her today and she sounded very chipper and eager to get discharged. Taking her a strawberry tart to celebrate getting through her op. They are administering drugs to prevent dvts. This was our biggest worry as my auntie died from a dvt after breaking her ankle 20 years ago. The youngest and I are visiting her this afternoon.

Make sure your mum isn't one like me who isn't supposed to take aspirin.  I was sicker from that than I would have been without.  Bleeding like a stuck pig comes to mind.  Aspirin when you have a hiatus hernia or several other things is not such a good idea.  I had never taken aspirin & when I came out of hospital they gave me some to take for another week.  Interestingly there were no instructions as you would normally get with meds.  So don't take if ................  totally missing.  A serious lesson for my future there.
