If not already done, I'd be getting the threatening behaviour on camera, either from your windows, or one you carry around. Take that to the police.

And keep a written log of every incident, as evidence too.
we have done all of that and provided to the police but they have refused to review the video evidence because they have said it's a civil dispute.
Speak to your MP. If, as you say, you have clear threats on video, and the police are refusing to get involved, they should do something about it.

I think I would start marketing the property exclusively to members of the police force. I suspect that the behaviour will stop immediately.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.
  • Don't go down the modern auction method.

Out of interest was the neighbour living next door when you moved in or did the move in after you.

What triggered this hostility or are they like this to everyone?
    They moved in after us.

They have had run ins with other neighbours - one because the opposite neighbour had a dropped curb put in  and another because they asked him to move his car that was blocking the junction.

Just doesn't want us living there because they want the house for themselves and has been unhappy that we wouldn't agree to an adjoining extension out the front and back of the house and have the fences taken down for one massive shared garden.
  • When you say the issues seem to be with you personally, why do you think this?

Is the house a semi or terrace?

Although you've said you can't muster up the strength to go back to the authorities  you are possibly going to have to try in oder to get rid of the house.
because one of things they screamed at us was that we were poison and pollution and all the neighbours have an issue with us as they all allegedly believe that we were running a casino/restaurant in the house.
  • I don't feel it's fair to say that the police won't get involved. Any threat of violence is very serious and so is attempting to poison an animal.

When someone texted me some threats of violence, the police immediately called them up and scared the !!!!!! out if them.
Similarly, my friends ex moved to Australia and sent a Facebook message with a death threat and now if they enter any UK port or airport they immediately get arrested. They have a special "panic" number to call too. (no-one who sends a death threat ever carries it out btw)

One route might be to allow your neighbour to harass and threaten you via Facebook etc. That way you have written evidence that you can screenshot and show to the police.

Your neighbour is stupid and probably drunk and will easily be tempted to incriminate themselves.

    Good luck.

The OP said that the next door neighbour is the other half of a semi, and wants to buy the OP's half to make one really big house.

Agreed. It's going to be hard, but like the post above recommending contacting the Chief Constable and the local MP (and councillors?), it's going to have to be done. If not, I fear the next-door neighbour's disgusting behaviour may win out. If the house goes to auction, there's nothing to stop the n-d-n picking it up at a low price.

it's hard because we can't get anyone to believe us even with the evidence and no one (such as agencies/charities) are willing/able to help. I'm trying to stop my other half from committing suicide, whilst trying to take care of my mental health and my other family/caring/work responsibilities all the while living on people's sofas.

we've been told to block the neighbour on any communication platform.

Our experience has been that the police are viewing it as civil property dispute and so are not getting involved and not willing to view the evidence we have.

Your experience has obviously been different but we can't get anyone to listen, believe us or take us seriously.
