I got Free food from Oscar.co.uk

Eukanuba is good stuff but pricey I've found and owed by P&G. If you want decent food we use Oscar Pet Foods = free delivery, nice local bloke + can't find a better product!
    Have fun!
By the way they are independent people with their own businesses so no supporting multinationals......

Well I've read this thread the whole way through and found nothing about reptiles. So here is what I do for my scaly friends. I breed my own mealworms, and am trying giant mealworms aswell as silkworms. I will also be breeding waxworms soon. That just leaves me the locusts and mice to buy for the snakes.
My male cat is on Wellbeloved because of a urinary problem at the moment. Is there anywhere I can get it cheaper than £10 for 2kg?

I have a Yorkie who is very strange about food and I would like any tips to tempt his appetite.

    WARNING
We bought a bag of dried food the vet said he should eat. He didn't like it and we put it in the garage. Big mistake!! The dog didn't like it but the mice LOVED it and not only set up home in the rubbish stored in there but brought all the relatives over - result MOUSE TOWN. We didn't know until the smell started to get into our bedroom. The garage did need a giant clean out, including the scrubbing of shelves and floor. Yorkshire Terrier - bred to catch rats and mice - stood at the door of the garage barking at the mice as they raced in droves for the great outdoors when we dragged furniture stored in protective (ha) plastic into the centre of the floor. Makes my hair stand on end to think about it!

If your pet needs regular medication and is not insured you can get a prescription from your vet (he/she cannot charge for this) and then order from a pet pharmacy website.

I have found the best to be https://www.vetuk.co.uk I literally pay half the price that my vet charges, the service is excellent and I normally get my cats' tablets within 48 hours of ordering - it's free delivery on non food items too.

I've also used https://www.bestpetpharmacy.co.uk and they were excellent too, vetuk beat them on price for the particular tablets that my cat needs.

You can also get flea and worm treatments that aren't available in pet shops or supermarkets and are normally bought at extortionate prices from the vets. Frontline no longer requires a prescription, some others do but remember your vet can no longer charge for issuing one.
Great tip - thanks so much. Vets charge so much for these products and for some of the items they insist on a consultation which adds about £20!!!
  • Hi, have just read through most of this looking for some internet shops/adresses for reduced price cat food/supplies. Can anyone help?
I'm interested in branded dry and wet food for my two cats, which seems to cost a fortune from supermarkets and pet food stores.
    Many thanx

2 Dwarf Lop House bunnies here. We do the following:

    1) Grow meadow grass in seedling trays for a constant supply of quality grass.
    2) Have our own rabbit garden where we grow a variety of green veg for them all year round.
    3) Re-use all non waxed/taped carboard boxes as play items
    4) They love used toilet rolls (not toilet paper!)
    5) Protect all cabling with PVC wrap and and any trailing cables go in cable housing.
    6) Buy bulk hay/straw from a local farm
    7) Buy woodshavings for the indoor hutch from a local woodmill
    8) Clip their nails (rather than pay a vet to do it)..it's not hard once you learn how.
    9) Shred paper to use as bedding
    10) If lucky you can pick up bags of toys and treats at the vet if they're promoting a new food product.

We have a 17 months old English Springer Spaniel !!!!!, been on Purina Beta all her life. Bags of energy. £23 for 15kg at Jolleys and have been wondering if there are cheaper generic feeds. Springer runs nons stop twice a day, feeding 400g a day and still not an ounce of fat on her.

"Working dog food" sounds interesting but am reluctant to move off Beta or to give it to her as she clearly needs and burns the calories. Anyone used this or the Jolleys own dry mix on a Spaniel / working dog?
  • Hi all, first time on the posting, so here we go...

In addition to those already posted, you can order free samples of animal food from:

http://www.burgesssupafeeds.co.uk/ (choose animal then click on 'free sample' on right)

    http://www2.husse.com/UK/ (area dependent)

    http://www.vitalinpetfood.co.uk/response_form.htm

http://www.wellbeloved.co.uk/ (click cat/dog then 'free sample' on left)

Saves a bit of money eh? Right, I'm off to do some serious debt busting as part of my '07 resolution... ;)
  • Small fluffies and everything that live in cages will love Hammocks...

    Ferrets, Ratties, Hamsters, Chinchilllas etc...

Get a pair of old trousers/clean tea towels/thick ish fabric.... cut into a square shape, and add holes in the corner, using paper clips or plastic cable ties that can be cut down at a later date, tie the 4 corners to the cage and watch your fluffies enjoy themself...

In the summer, fill an old water bottle and bung it in the freezer. Put on the outside of the cage/in the hutch with bunnies and it makes a fantastic cooler...

Also.... Ratties, and Hamsters will be occupied for hours with Rillet- the same stuff that Parrots etc eat.....

AND.... Hamster owners... always wash your hands... Hamsters tend to sink their teeth into your hands when they smell like food....

Cat owners.. if you *do* choose to put a collar on your cat, please put a bell on (they cost 15-50p!) the collar because it will save lots of little lives (and chasing the undead around your kitchen floor...yum).

love ditzy x (the hamster tamer...muhahaha!)

P.S Neighbours cats pooing in your gloriously cat free Garden? Hose/ Watering Can/Shower head out of the window at the offending animal... We've had no problems since. OR Get some Tiger/Lion poo from your local Zoo... the smaller cats won't dare to go near the "big" cat's garden...Cunning eh...
    :pLove hugs and glitterbugs :p
