I have livestock that I keep outside in fields. They regularly try and wreck the fences so I invested in a battery operated electric fence. It works off a 12 volt car batteries and you can get second-hand ones from garages. They are giving them away for free here as you have to pay to "dispose" of them responsibly these days and that costs money. We have two - one nuking the animals when they rub their bottoms on the fences and one on charge to take over.
A very good investment.0 -
Saving on catlitter
I used to spend pounds on cat litter for two cats until we had catflap put in= now neither cat ever uses the cat loo and my litter spending is zero !
If you can put in a catflap, you can save loads..........effortlessly.0 -

CHOCCYHOLIC- My apologies.
I don't blame you for thinking bad of me for my comments about the catflap- I neglected to say that I live in the country with nearest neighbour 200yds away and fields all around so my cats are not going into other people's gardens/streets. As they like to scratch in soil they go in my garden !
Hope you read this at some point.0 -
My vet's (which is a chain) https://www.vets4pets.eu.com runs a scheme and has done for at least 3 years (to my knowledge) where when you buy the first vaccinations you can buy them for life, which cost me only £60 this year.0

If you have leaf/veg eaters try local allotments. I know a child near me who has several bunnies regularly pays a visit to the lovely old guys who have allotments near me and they give them veggies and bits that are cut off the likes of cauliflowers etc.
Some Vets4Pets do that offer, our local one did but only for a limited time. One day I might be more organised...........
GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb0 -
An even cheaper way is to go to your local boot fair on a Sunday morning. There are often dozens of people selling stuffed toys and if you wait until things are packing up they are usually quite glad to practically give them away. 25p each is the price I pay and I stock up at the end of the season to keep the dogs happy all winter when there are no boot fairs!0

I just got my renewal form for my parrot from exoticdirect.co.uk for insurance.. i know most people will say, why would you insure a parrot?! but in the first year of her life she contracted psittacosis and was very ill - took almost £500 in vet bills to get her back to health, and she could have died. If you have a parrot or exotic animal, they also do reptiles.. consider insuring them.. it also insures against death (they pay for you to replace it with the same species), loss & theft, as well as vets bills.
I was very pleased and suprised to see that not only had the premiums gone down this year, but also that I was given a 5% discount on the total fee for no claims - next year it will be 10%. I pay £4 a month for my parrot and if I put £4 a month away into a savings account it would never be enough to cover more than an intitial consult and some medication if she got sick!0
