If you are looking for the closest thing to ee without actually being ee you ought to check out 1pmobile.
I wouldn't say I was a fan but I am a much lighter user and don't really need a technically identical signal.

    https://www.1pmobile.com/data-25GB-SIM

I use the budget end rwg but some people find their ee coverage doesn't stretch to rural locations., whereas ee themselves and 1p offer a stronger signal and WiFi calling.

One quirk of 1pmobile is that you need to make a topup of £10 at least every 120 days, and they process lower value boosts out of your account credit, which they then process an auto topup to replenish if you go under £2 credit. So the actual amount you pay each month can vary unless you are on the £10 bundle or more.
Auto top-ups are an option, you don't have to allow auto topups, we don't.
But you do then need to make sure you top up by the due date, this is clearly stated on the website and they email you when getting close.

How do you pay for your bundle?
From credit. I manually topup if there isn't enough, but I usually only buy the £3 bundle (1GB)
As I understand it bundles below £10 come out of your credit and the low credit autotopup is at £2. So you could find you don't have enough credit to autorenew your bundle. Do you get notified if your credit balance is below your bundle cost?
I wouldn't try to buy a bundle if I didn't have enough credit. I'd top up first.

According to the info on their product page the 1gb bundle costs £5 and autorenews from your credit balance. BUT your balance will only autotopup if it goes below £2. So if your balance is £4.99 it won't notify you but the bundle purchase will fail?

"Join 1pMobile today with a £10 top-up so you are all set for when the SIM arrives.

Your 1GB and Unlimited Calls+Text Boost will be added automatically every 30 days from your credit. And when your balance falls below £2, we will automatically process a £10 top-up for you, to ensure you always have the credit you need "

It isn't a case of you trying to buy a bundle, it is a case of you needing to check your account balance every month just before your bundle is due to renew.

As I understand it the £10 and over bundles are charged directly to a credit/debit card so don't have that issue. And AFAIK it is only 1pmobile that recur low cost bundles from a credit balance (although some allow one-off purchases from credit.)

Why are you assuming I auto renew my bundle? I don't. Again, auto renewing bundles is an option. Like auto top up.
Let me try to make this crystal clear. There is no auto top up set on my account. There is no auto renewal of bundles on my account. I buy a bundle if/when i think I need one, I don't always have one active. I top up when I need to.  The only bundle I ever buy is the 1GB data only bundle for £3 (there is a £5 bundle which includes calls/texts but I would need to use 200 minutes/texts to make that worthwhile and I never do).
They email me when my bundle runs out, they email me when my credit is low, and 2 weeks before my topup date.
Some people may prefer the auto renew/topup options, but I'm happy doing things manually with email reminders.

There is absolutely nothing there about one-off payments for bundles, or £3 for 1gb data.
In any case since the op was looking at deals for 5gb-20gb it is unlikely they would be attracted to paying £3 for 1gb every couple of days.
    The point is that 1pmobile offer automatically recurring bundles and for bundles under £10 you would need to ensure you have enough credit before the renewal is due;

This is like wading through treacle. Hint - look at the end of the page and click on the "Check out our boosts" button. Can you see the £3 1GB data boost now? Look closely. It's there. It really is. It not only exists, but I've used it! And there are other options if more data needed. And they don't have to be recurring.
But I'm past caring whether you believe me or not. OP may find 1p mobile useful, maybe there are better options for him/her. But I know how they work, and I'm not spoon feeding you any more. End of conversation. Ta ta

Because all the current deals on their website specify that they renew automatically. Can you send the op a link to purchase the same bundle that you are on?
    Linked from their front page

There is absolutely nothing there about one-off payments for bundles, or £3 for 1gb data.
In any case since the op was looking at deals for 5gb-20gb it is unlikely they would be attracted to paying £3 for 1gb every couple of days.
    The point is that 1pmobile offer automatically recurring bundles and for bundles under £10 you would need to ensure you have enough credit before the renewal is due;

Do you want to borrow my reading glasses. 🙂 It's quite clearly there towards the bottom of the page.
Do you mean under the bit where it says "will automatically recur...from your credit"?

The Boosts section specifically says they do not re-occur.
  • Avoid LYCA.  They had a payments issue on auto renew and we lost access on two bundles.  No joy with them so requested PAC for both contracts.  The retention team rang and offered us a 'free' month and I think a trial access to their 10Gb bundle.  Nothing happened until I received an email telling me the direct debit was set up.  It did not specify if it was one or both contracts, what bundle, or what cost.

Long story short version.  I contacted yesterday and was told it would be fixed in 24 to 48 hours and there was a note on my file.  Today I was told no note, no contract, no direct debit, no bundle. Now NO CUSTOMER.
