Programmes missing on EPG Sony TV with Humax Box

Despite my very best efforts, and I have tried, including scrolling through both Hunmax and TV instruction manuals, the EPG is now actually worse than ever. There are even fewer programmes than before showing and more than ever are showing: "No programme information." I am at a loss as to what more can be done. It means that I can't click to record a programme (unless it is one of the few channels still showing) and I can't record a series.I have spent hours trying and I just have to give up now - it is so discouraging. If anyone has any ideas or insights as to what can be done to sort this it will be really appreciated, thanks.1

Which model Humax box do you have?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?1 -
The newer one (in my living room) is the one I am having problems with. It is FVP-5000T. The older Humax Box (in my bedroom) is problem free and it is also FVP-5000T - but is a few years older than the living room one. I'll be glad of any help or insights as to what the problem could be, thank you.

To summarise, you have two FVP-5000T boxes running from the same aerial via a powered splitter.
One works perfectly and gets all channels.
The other one is getting gradually worse.
This is nothing to do with TV sets or transmitters or aerials.
Almost certainly the downstairs box is on the way out.
You might feel that the older box upstairs 'should' fail first, but that is not how it works.
How old is the faulty box? You have rights against the retailer you bought it from. Speak to them.
You say it carries recordings which are important to you. As others have said, existing recordings are unaffected by tuner problems so you will be able to watch them as long as the box keeps working but unfortunately all recordings are scrambled and locked to that machine so there is no way you can get them off the hard disk, even if you take the disk out and read the data into a computer or an identical recorder. I believe Humax had to implement this encoding process for copyright reasons.3 -
Before getting into an argument with the retailer, have you tried all the standard trouble shooting? You know, things like switching it off at the wall socket, waiting a minute before switching it on again. Unplugged all the cables, then plugged them in again.
Does the EPG on these work without an internet connection?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?1 -
Thanks very much GDB222 and Alderbank. Both Humax boxes were bought from Richer Sounds first (1 TB) in June 2018 and the second (2 TB) in November 2019. I bought my Sony TV there too. All have served me well, have been very well used and are out of warranty.
I think I have followed, to the best of my ability, the trouble shooting things you suggested GDB2222. I have tried the Humax box without the internet connection and it has the same EPG problem as when it is connected to the aerial. I have spent most of today, on and off, trying to sort the problem.
If it sounds likely that my Humax Box is nearing the end of its useful life I would not complain at all as it has served me very well and I have always had good service from Richer Sounds.
With a birthday then Christmas coming I would be happy to soldier on for now and consider a replacement after Christmas in January.
If I do need a replacement I would prefer something easy to 'manage' as my skills with technology are not too good. I have not looked and I don't know if there is a Freeview Play Humax box up-to-date more recently than 2018-19. If I will soon need a replacement I would be very pleased indeed for any suggestions for a replacement Freeview Play ? Humax Box. I am now more than half way through my 70's, heading for 80 and, with winter and dark nights coming, I tend to spend most evenings at home - enjoying my TV.
It is so good of everyone who has replied, thanks.

An update on my lack of EPG on my Bush PVR.It's back again, no idea why, I tried again this morning to retune and this time all stations are there on EPGI used the Installation setting to retune, not sure if Humax has one, the one for using when first installedFingers crossed it staysEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens1

Thanks Farway. I'm glad you have had success in getting the EPG back. Mine is still problematic and I'm coming round to accepting that my Humax Box is beginning to fail and is on the way out. I'll persevere for now and maybe think of getting a replacement after Christmas.

When I had Humax problems with disappearing EPG channels it was the aerial that was at fault. When my man went up there, he looked at it and, ten seconds later, came back down the ladder with the aerial in his hand. It had rotted through and it was only twenty years old! Can you ask your friendly aerial installer to come and check it, they should be able to plug it into a test meter for little (lower than than a new aerial) cost.0

Thank you for that suggestion Le_Kirk. My aerial is on the roof outside and there is a booster box in my loft.I'll definitely keep your suggestion in mind. The only reason I am a bit hesitant is because only my Humax box in my living room is affected and the Humax box in my bedroom has never stopped showing the full EPG.0
