Best of luck. I do wonder why it says you need to topup every six months if you don't. To be honest I have never needed to get in touch with rwg, it just works (apart from one text message outage for about 6 hours once).

Out of sheer devilment I might try to get a working SIM from RWG, as has been pointed out there's not a great deal to lose especially if not wishing to PORT a number with them.

That has probably covered the topic, for now at least.
  • Iv been lucky with RWG,no problems,it just works.
I use it as my main number now,iv got a dual sim phone,so use my three sim as normal with no need to port number over, and not bother to tell companys, banks etc,iv changed number

Have a Three SIM PAYG in an old work IPhone.. 2 years on still working - never topped up once. I would not like to rely on it to be honest but sometimes use for online shopping for text updates for deliveries etc.

Many years ago, DD2 'upgraded' so Three sent her a PAYG sim to "put in your old phone to give to someone else"
Her new contract had limited minutes but U/L 3-3 calls so she often used to 'phone home' to this 'Three Phone'.
We never put any credit on it for a couple of years and it worked fine till circumstances changed and we stopped using it!

Given that I started the thread may I take the opportunity here just to clarify what my main line of thinking was at the the time .........

I wanted to find out from from the experience of contributors if you could still source a legitimate (ish) :) SIM card that allowed me to stick it in my phone, not have to top it up every three or six  (or, ideally, not even every twelve) months but to be able to use it to make calls/texts and access data on a PAYG basis. Obviously chargeable calls would need to be made periodically.

This is what we USED to be able to do with O2 Classic 3p 2p p1 PAYG and also something very similar with Three.  As we know Three done away with it and O2 Terms and Conditions seem to say they, too , have changed ..... apparently, O2 have changed their rules and you now, seemingly, have to TOP UP (£10) every 6 months rather than just make qualifying calls (but, as mentioned way back at the start of the thread, I rang them recently and they said it was still just qualifying calls or texts but people here have said that's not the case and some have been disconnected for not complying.

I haven't quite got my head around the GIFF GAFF PAYG plan  and despite reading through their literature I still can't be sure their PAYG fulfills my objective. The bundles are easy enough to understand but I can't be sure their PAYG plan allows users not to top up every so many months.  Someone please show me the section that explains that bit.

    Much obliged good people.

    From giffgaff website;
    "Should I choose credit instead?

With rates at just 25p/min, 10p/text and 10p/MB, if you're only using your phone now and then, pay as you go may be your best option.

Adding credit is super easy with card or top up vouchers.

Your credit will never expire while your SIM is active; that's about 6 months from your last use."

"Last use" to me would mean last charged activity, there is nothing about needing to make a topup.
That said rwg and tesco lite are much cheaper (and tesco use the same signal)
