Urine in new builds

Options
If you’re buying a new build and on viewing you discover a strong scent of urine around the toilet and straw coloured liquid pooling in the sink, would you make a fuss?  I know it’s normal on large construction sites (even though it really shouldn’t be in my opinion) but I find it difficult to accept urine smells in a brand new bathroom.

"Viewing" at what stage in the process?

I would probably just be relieved that they were using bathroom fittings for it...

I'm not an expert, but if I was in your situation I would report the issue to the construction company and request that the property be professionally cleaned at their expense before you move in.

Based on the principle: if you don't ask, you don't get.

Between reservation and exchange. Theres no guarantee they’re not urinating in other places too. Also, the plumbing isn’t connected yet so if they are urinating in the toilet, it wouldn’t flush. Also who’s to say they won’t start doing number 2s in there as well.

Assuming construction is finished then I would expect you to be buying it in the condition it's in at exchange - so ideally you ought to be doing a further check before that happens.

Though if cleaning up some pee is the worst thing to be sorted out, you're doing quite well..
  • If you knew half the stuff that goes on a construction site this would be the least of your concerns 🤣🤣

Point it out at your peril as who knows what they might do to your house next.....

As long as it is exchanged and delivered clean and tidy on completion that's all that matters and start your snag list on every visit.
  • If you want to raise it without the risk of reprisals, request that the property is left in a clean and sanitary/hygienic condition.  Don't specify what or why.

What could be worse than soiling a new building?  They might have done a number 2 in some places too. The site management clearly don’t care.

Urinating and deficating in the wall spaces. Left over sandwiches and rubbish again in wall space and under floors. Beware the half eaten tuna sandwich.

Builders don't generally take their rubbish with them it's a bury on site or out of site kind of job.

Any new build will be the same for a national house builder imo. Smaller well run bespoke builders are generally better run and controlled.
