If you were able to call up ahead of times to notify banks of big deposits, then all the criminals would do it to skirt around AML rules.

Way I see it, if you're going to have to call Santander to authorise a held payment, you might as well call them up and do the transfer over the phone. No need to faff around with breaking the payment up into 2 transactions that way.
So of I make the payment over the phone will it not get blocked?
Almost certainly not - though it might take a couple of hours to make a larger payment over the phone as they will interrogate you like the Spanish Inquisition, and it might involve a call from their fraud department before the payment gets released

Registering your voice as your password beforehand should shorten some of the ckecking
Calling Santander beforehand is a waste of time. You will have to prove to their satisfaction that you are not giving money away to a scammer, otherwise they will not make the payment. We cannot guarantee that you will be able to do that.

I have said Registering your voice as your password beforehand should shorten some of the ckecking. Which is 100% true because you skip all the questions about DOB, address, last transactions and whatever else they are asking if you have not registered your voice as your password. So it is anything but a waste of time, and also something that you can make use of again and again.

I have just seen on the Santander website that they are asking all customers to register for Voice ID before September 2023 - so the OP might already be registered anyway.
What I was trying to say there telling Santander of your intention to make payment in advance does not help. I had not previously heard of Voice ID. I make a lot of big payments including two this month, and I have not been asked to register for Voice ID. I know the questions that I am going to be asked and can answer them very quickly. I have not had to speak to security recently, but it is possible that they redid some of the ID checks. Customer services rings me back to make sure that my phone number has not been spoofed, and there is then a second very short ID check. I expect that I will be asked to register for Voice ID eventually, but I do not want to be an early adopter.

Voice ID has been on offer for at least 2 years so you wouldn't be an early adopter. It's working very well.

    An update:

I called Santander the day before I wanted to make payment and they confirmed that max online payment was £25000 per day. But that I could make up to 100k faster payments by phone.

So I called back the next day and made the payment that way. (Voice ID must have been set up already) it took about 45 minutes to get through the security questions and then get a call back to complete payment.

However it was all easy enough and the payment wasn't blocked!

Today I attempted to call YBS to get the payment allocated to the correct part of the mortgage. This wasnt as straight forward as the Santander call yesterday.

It took 3 attempts each time with a wait time of 40 minutes in the queue. The first time I gave up. The second time I got disconnected after getting through security. Third time was finally successful!

Glad its all finally sorted now though.
