Wordle in 3 for me today, only feeling a little bit smug as it was a 50:50 on 2, which I would have been very smug about 😁
Could you tell us more about the A's app please? I looked but couldn't see anything about earning money back..2 -
Trickle vents are a different thig Redo - we have them on some windows and not on others - but this specific adjustment thing is to do with the actual closing mechanism - the little pins that move up and down to secure UPVC windows into the frame.
I bought some of the sealing strip from the Must Have Ideas people and we've found that decent for draught excluding on the front door too - must get round to using it on the shower screen as well, which was the other plan for it!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

ooo - thanks for the info about the locking mechanism - I'll have a watch and see if ours have this feature. I do know that some of our have adjustable vents but I've always thought the extra breeze in the winter was because the seal around the actual windows was perishing! Fingers crossed this solves the issue on our two north facing windows!

EH I thank you for the window information. I now have a lounge window that now has no draught .Life is an adventure, never stop exploring.2

The window thing is ridiculous isn't it - I mean we've had the type of double glazed windows that have that adjustment for literally years, without having any idea that it was possible. Why does nobody tell anyone about this?! The difference it has made to our front room temperature is just ludicrous!
MSE Stuff then:
- Banks are all checked and good
- MrEH started the process to transfer an ISA (one with joint funds in) to one with the same provider that pays better interest
- Discussion had about what to do with the TV package - and we have decided to go for the £22 a month option that also includes the Flix on the Net I think. It should work well as we'll be able to use that on both TVs anyway, and we can then just work out as time goes on which of the two makes most sense to have the streaming gadget plugged in to. I'm hoping I can sort out to change to that via the customer portal as well as I'm a bit fed up with them deciding to charge me a £10 admin fee each time I renegotiate at the end of the contract! That's one to look at over the weekend, I think.
- Spendiness occurred - but necessarily so as we started the process of getting holiday travel and additional accommodation booked up. Accommodation for the way up overnight stop is dealt with, the ferry across is booked (although we are also hoping to book an additional crossing over to Skye to make the journey more enjoyable) and the odd single night after we leave the cottage at the end of the trip is booked. I've got an enquiry in for our first couple of days on the islands as well - we may have to have a change of plans from the usual there.
- enquiry sent today about booking our usual cottage for 2026 so that's exciting too - hopefully Anne won't want a deposit until later in the year either.
- Tea last night used up half a pack of chipolatas from the freezer, a can of beans from stores and the remainder of the mash I cooked at the weekend. I've got a tub of turkey chunks out ready for a stir fry this evening so that will be using up odds and ends of veg, plus a pack of ready to wok noodles from stores. There's home made plum sauce to go with it too.
We're talking about maybe having an afternoon/evening out on Saturday involving a wander round a wetland centre and a visit to one of our favourite taprooms (which we have sadly heard might be closing, along with its associated brewery) - if we do then that will come from personal spends of course. It's nice to have a saturday where MrEH doesn't have rugby commitments so we'd like to make the most of it!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

All this talk on Lid* makes me miss my love love even more as it got closed down ..
Your trip sounds lovely and sorry to hear re your local brewery possible closingDON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Get you getting organised with the ferry bookings! More than a little jealous. However it looks as though we may have a house by May, t'other side of the country but it's time for a change. And then we can get back to wandering once we're secure.3
-
Ahh if only this one WAS local LaPlan (or as it's closing, maybe best it's not?!) it will mean a jaunt into London but frankly it's well worth it!
Ahh teaselMay we're a touch earlier than our normal this year so figured it was time to get sorted - we're going with the Lochmaddy crossing as well, as much as we both loathe that drive to get to Uig, as we just can't stand the stress of the Lochboisdale route for yet another year - we're talking about booking it for the way back as we do want to do it one way or another, and actually being up there you get more of a feel for what is going to happen, plus the advantage of heading to a terminal and standing in front of someone to make new arrangements when Calmac play hell with the previous ones! The hope is that when we reverse engineer the timings from our overnight, we can work with a booking on Mallaig > Armadale then drive up from there - for more palatable! Your house situation sounds most exciting though - although I bet you're missing your wanderings!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Cutting that corner to Armadale, although it ends up taking almost as long as if you'd driven with check ins etc, makes it feels a whole lot less of a slog to Uig. Can't believe I may actually own part of a house soon, and so never have to move again, genuinely thought we might end up having to live in the van only a few months ago.3
-
Yes - it's daft isn't it, it's less miles for sure, but as you say, needing to be at two terminals a set time ahead, and then the loading up and the actual mechanics of the crossings means it probably doesn't save time - SO much more fun though! (And it has to be said, the number of times we've pulled up at Armadale in particular as they are loading up the boat ahead of our booked one, and just been waved straight on board and off within minutes, rather offsets that!
)
There is honestly nothing like the feeling of owning the roof over your head, and knowing that nobody can just come along and either insist that you have to pay money to have works done, or simply say "Sorry, you need to leave" - it's just priceless!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡
